My flyscreen now has two HID ballasts, two relays, all of the additional wiring, and a voltage meter mashed behind it. It's a really tight fit, but all of the connections are made with Posi-Locks. Has anyone had any issues with packing that much stuff into the flyscreen? Should I open it back up and make everything fit nice and logical? | ||

I am almost at the point of adding spacers to extend the flyscreen a few inches. Hell I had to upgrade from the Lightning flyscreen to get half my crap to fit. | ||

No experience with posi-locks but I splice/solder/tape (use good stuff, Scotch 33+, not cheap stuff) every joint because I don't ever want to think about them again and they take up the least space. I would work to relocate the ballasts. I put mine into the inner airbox. Cleaned up the front flyscreen. | ||

Crap. More work in there, I guess. Relocating the ballasts will be tough due to the wiring harness I'm using. The relays are nearer to the . I'll take the flyscreen off again this weekend and see what can be moved around. The posi-locks seem to be holding strongly. Time will tell if I need to splice/solder instead. | ||

J've had several issues with posi-locks. I have bought quite a few bikes that have been field modified, and the posi-locks were what always failed. IMHO, solder, if you use butt splices, fill them with a good grease (to prevent corrosion), then 3M super 33 or super77 Tape on all the joints. 3M tape will hold up through almost anything. The clips that actually cut into the wire, eventually cut the wire in two pieces, making on open circuit,(no power). so what ever they were nice enough to add on, fails. usually lights. one time they spliced into a battery supply to the ignition, and guess which wire broke? (you guessed it). I walked for three miles to get my truck,at 2:00 in the morning. Needless to say, I am not very fond of the clips.Soldering is so much more permanent. | ||

Ah, I'm not using the clip type. I'm using the three part types that screw together and force two already cut ends of wire into a central metal cone to make the contact. Still thinking about redoing them with soldered joints though. |
