Has anyone fooled around with the idea of mounting a smaller version of an HD lower fairing wind deflector on the Uly forks? It occurred to me the other day while riding behind the Strada set up with a ZG tall screen that a good portion of air turbulence on interstate riding comes up from below to the rider. Was thinking that maybe clamping on a modified set of HD winglets might be worth a try. Turbulence does not bother me on the Uly except on the interstate as the speed gets between 70 and 75 and nostly I think it is the buffeting from other vehicles or semi's that mess up the airflow.. May have to try a taller screen as well but the lowers idea seems to be worth a try. Figured someone on here must have already given it a go. |

i noticed the jetstream coming up the front frame rails. i would think the problem with blocking it would be reduced airflow to the scoop on the left and the smoking hot pantleg on the right but im usually wrong.. |

What you're looking for is a set of lower wind deflectors made by Memphis Shades. The set is comprised of 2 deflectors in clear and various tints. I highly recommend them. They mount with clamps to the fork tubes, are above the scoop, and stop almost all buffeting. IIRC the clamps I have are the ones listed for a Honda VTX, but I'm not 100% sure about that. I posted pictures of my set-up in another thread sometime back, not sure when. Check them out on the Memphis Shades website. |

Thanks Dio, the Memphis Shades were the ones I looked at on the web. Looking at the Uly it looks like it would easily mount above the scoops. I will measure the fork tubes to be sure on the clamp size. |

Those are nice. I have to wonder if the X has more air coming up than the XT. I don't have any issues with air flow. Had a lot of problems with my Harley's and the ones on my Road King were quite large and very chrome. |

Helibuell Very nice and refined looking. I was a little hesitant to go that low on the fork legs with the deflectors for fear that they would disrupt the air flow into the air scoops and the engine would overheat. But they sure do work to keep the wind from coming up into your helmet, much less noise. |

Hey Husker, it is your bike I saw at Hal's that got my curiosity up. The aluminum I can make but what about the clear windscreen ? Who makes it and can you post some pics of the whole thing ? |

Ya it was mine, it is a Slipstreamer Hellfire tall screen. I got the idea from electraglider_1997 he had one mounted on his for a while. I got it from a Ebay seller back in January and had intended it for winter riding but I have become spoiled with the wind free riding while I listen to audio books & music on my Mp3 player. I used a heat gun to re form the bottom portion so it would mount up on the sides of the flyscreen. If guess if I want wind in my face I can take it off in less than 5 minutes. |

You're right. Most of the air comes up from below. The frame is like an air foil, pushing the air from below straight at your head and chest. I really didn't notice it until I got a Parabellum windshield which blocked the air coming straight at me. I finally built this to fix the problem (sorry, best photo I have with me). Still air at 90 mph.

Thanks guys, that's another one for my list of home-build farkles. Now I gotta find time to: Make a big-foot for the kickstand, wire in the 4way blinker kit, and make a pair of wind deflectors. I saw another DIY mod to improve the blurring (by reducing the vibration) of the standard 'lollypop' mirrors on ADVrider the other day which I may try: Drill a small hole in the top of the plastic mirror casing, fill it with lead shot and pour in a liquid glue of some sort- I reckon it's a worthwhile farkle. When I eventually get round to doing any of those things I'll post the results on here, none of them are essential and I've got a 7 month old son to deal with now. Ulyrat has been very reliable for quite a while now and does everything I need- still very happy with her. |

Redshiftquasars I like your extensions. do they completely block the wind from the bottom? |
