i know one of the nearby towns were evaluating one last year because the road conditions around that area aren't the best. I don't know if they ever purchased the bike or not (I heard they were looking at two).

HD did get the Buell Uly Police bike into the Michigan test along with a couple of HD police bikes.

I'm *this* close to getting DC Metro on our demo for a week. City PD rode it for a charity ride (his escort BMW was...uh...let's just say "non-functional" at the time) last week. Every time the County Sheriff caught up to him on his FLH (they were doing leapfrog intersection blocks), City had a huge grin and a "damn, this thing's FAST" for him. Now County wants to try it too, LOL.

I just bought my first ULY and before I bought it, I went to the HD dealership in Wichita, KS. I went there to test ride one to see if I like them. There demo was the police version. After I rode it I was hooked and went the next week and bought the used 2006 that I was looking at. I couldn't believe the power and maneuverability that they have.

i have seen several being ridden by the LEOs in the daytona area... they look good, however: i ride my uly to daytona often and the heat factor when you get caught in traffic is terrible...

the thought of working bumper to bumper traffic in south florida on a uly would be a nightmare...

working it in a patrolcar was bad enough...
my dept just got a fleet of harleys and im told they are the screaming eagle model.. they look cool, but again, its the lean running harley leg roast..the beemer would be my choice if i had to work in the hot sun all day, but most of the troopers wanted the harley for the "image".... but then, in the winter time the uly heat would be a blessing..

sorry, but i just dont see the uly catching on in the police community.. not in florida anyway..

Buell needs to couple the blast engine to an electric motor and battery pack before the Japanese eats our lunch in that department too. Yamaha is supposedly going to start selling a hybrid bike next year. I only mention this because a very small engine would not be a heat problem like the 1200cc power-plant is. I'm looking for to electric motorcycles that can go 150 miles plus per charge and it will happen.

http://www.gizmag.com/yamaha-set-to-launch-hybrid- production-motorcycle-for-2010/12033/

Now if you read that article you'll realize that the bike they plan to sell will most likely look like a normal motorcycle and not like the photo shown. The future had better not bite HD and Buell like the big 3 auto failures. Keep up or get out of the way. Notice that we aren't riding around by horse and buggy except in Amish and Mennonite country. Actually those people are probably the greenest US citizens.

I don't think any of the DC bike officers that I'VE seen would "fit" on a Uly (I kid...I kid...), but I sure wouldn't mind seeing them. I'm always a little bit jealous when I pass the bike cops in my car. They never seem to show emotion, but you gotta' believe they like their job.

The Japanese bite HD like the big three? You mean the myth about the Japanese having "superior" cars and hybrids before us? Get real. GM has had prototype hybrid cars since before Toyota was even selling cars on our shore. Need I remind you of the miserable failure the Toyota Rav4 EV program was? Needless to say, GM has 13 different hybrid models available for purchase today. If anyone needs to do any catching up, it is you and the media.

As for the Amish, the humans are the greenest, between their lack of showers and lack of using anything related to technology, but the emissions of methane and other gases from their farms far exceeds what you and I do.

Oh yea, and bring along the hybrid Blast! I have been contemplating sticking an electric motor on it.

I'm only saying that the Big 3 have to be dragged kicking and screaming to change things. Having Electric cars called the Impact that they ended up sending to the crusher even though the leasers of those cars wanted to buy them is typical GM. Your comment about the methane is so much cow crap. Unless you are some sort of vegan and I highly doubt that, every gas belching and farting cow becomes steaks and burger that all of us carnivores eat. EG out.

they could keep the 1200 and put radiators on it, in the place were people are putting their frame wind blockers at and all would be spiffy.
