Looking for a cheap throttle lock for my new Uly XT. Because of the heated grips, I don't want to have to cut away any part of the grip.

I've searched this but only found the installs that require drilling a hole in the switch gear housing, which I also don't really want to do if I can avoid it.

Is there a Vista Cruise model that can be installed without drilling into the switch housing, or without cutting the grip? Has anyone used the universal Vista Cruise?

The best cruise control is the Crusty Autocruise. I got mine for free, but you can get yours for about a buck. Single best farkle ever.

BTW I got some kind of vista cruise at home that I bought cause I was told on here it would work, long story short it won't.

Froggy, what's that all about? This is the first i've heard of the Crusty Autocruise. Looks like a big rubber O-ring to me, but how doth it work?

When I want to cruise, I just slide it till it drops between the grip and bar end. It improved my photography skills significantly, and can now take pictures like these:

Ok done photo wh0ring. I don't know where Crusty got it, but it is sweet.

I just slide it off with a flick of the wrist. Also, the ZTL2 brake will overpower it in a worst case scenario.

Nice O-ring Froggy, but that ain't going to cut it for me... every bike I've had has had a vista or NEC throttle lock, and I don't think I could get any better than being able to just flick my thumb to lock the throttle.

Rolling the O-ring onto the grip would just be too much of a pain for me...

Maybe I'm soft, but a flick of the thumb is what I'm looking for...

Did you get the Heavy or Extra Heavy handlebar ends?? How hard/long is installation?

Extra heavy, and takes longer to find my allen key than to actually install.

BTW, flicking your thumb will require more effort and will consume more energy : )

Don't bother with the NEC. It won't fit on the Uly with heated grips. I tried...

Not true.

You got that info from me and mine works fine.

Here is the thread (complete with photos):

Maybe it's due to your heated grips - don't know.

I have the $25 dollar cheapie heated grip kit from Aerostitch.

My setup works like a charm.

There is a Vista control that does not work. The Universal Vista control is what works.

Those of you with the Universal Vista Cruise, is the throttle part of it just on the actual throttle grip?

Tginnh, great write up - is that the edge of the grip immediately to the left of the chrome strip on the lock? Between the chrome and the switch housing?

I'm not sure if I like the look of that Universal lock... seems pretty big and bulky, and I'm not sure if I like the fact that the thumb lever is so high up.

Maybe I should just get one of the other ones that requires a screw into the switch housing...

Yes.

The rig is what it is. It serves the utility for which it was designed. Others have noted their displeasure with the look.

Anyone have some photos of the Kaoko throttle lock? I just ordered some HVMPs so no throttle meisters, and I don't care for the look of the vista setup.

Thanks,

Josh

Those of you that have put a screw into your switch housing to secure your vista cruise or NEP locks, did you remove the switch housing before drilling the hole?

I'm worried about drilling into it not knowing if there's something on the other side...

Also, I guess the screw is secure enough if it's screwed into the plastic? I'm also worried about it working loose if there's not nut on the other side holding it there...

Signal4- the kaoko's will not work with the HVMP ends as they are bar ends also.

Trevd, I ran into issues with several other things including my GPS so I ended up not bothering. The O-ring went on in seconds and hasn't failed yet.

Froggy, you and your O-ring!

Call me old fashioned, but I don't like the remains of an old condom on my throttle...

Okc..I've got the heavy bar ends as recommended by HVMP - I MAY let you try them. Ha! They came in handy this weekend in some sand.

I use the Kaoko control and love it. Comes with matching left side bar end.

So what size O-ring, and where do you find them? I was at Lowes, could not find Big O-rings anywhere.
