I see what appears to be a ground wire on the clutch side of the bike, under the seat, 2 inches from the battery. It's obviously on there pretty tight, with a washer. Did someone say to take this off and connect it to the neg terminal of the battery??? |

I don't know! Take off your seat and have a look. |

IIRC... there should be 2 connections there 1 to the battery negative terminal and one that is coming out of the wiring harness that runs next to the ground point. There is a Tech Bulletin to improve this ground (TT339)..but have never seen mention of moving it. (Message edited by gamdh on May 11, 2009) |

there are several ground points on the bike..if you notice, the battery ground is just a 1/4-20 screw to the frame... to top it off, mine had lok-tite on it and i had to run a longer bolt, as it had stripped... get some stainless star washers and put one under the battery bolts and ground points.. i bought a second ground strap and ran it from the negative battery terminal to the other side of the tail section... if you ever rotate the motor, it would be a good oportunity to run a large wire from a starter thru bolt to the negative battery terminal or the frame ground.. dont forget the headlight ground on the front of the frame... star washers are cheep insurance.. |

I'm no electrician, but if a ground wire is touching the frame of the bike, it's touching metal, what does a washer add? It's just more metal. I must be missing something. |

A star washer has lots of sharp points on both sides that dig into the metal surfaces between two electrical conductors to ensure the lowest possible electrical resistance in much the same way that a taser's barbed projectiles pierce skin to enable it to easily deliver its debilitating shock currents. |

Most important a star lock-washer prevents bolt loosening without the less-conductive side effect of chemical lock-tite. |
