Just got back from a 200 mile trip, and being a new uly owner I have a few questions. This morning I tried to start my bike to let it warm up,Well all I got in return was one revolution of the motor then click! click!.I tried three other times and that was all it would do!It's been less than a week since my last ride ,and it was fine then.It has a new battery.I have a tender for it but I didn't realize it was mandatory to always plug it up,That fills to much like an electric motorcycle. After an hour or so the bike seem to be cranking like a typical harley(dragging starter and all).I guess I will put it back on the tender! All in all we had a great trip, but on our way back from Deals Gap we stopped off at Fontana Dam campground to go on another forest service road, when I realized as we entered the campground trying to downshift, I had no shifter. The shifter screw had vibrated out.Luckly after 20 min we found the screw and the shim(lucky I no). It's time for some lock tight!!

Have your battery load tested, its possible you got a battery made on Friday, 5 minutes before the shift ended. : )

You shouldn't need to use the tender, but it can help extend the life of your battery.

Also, check your battery connection, loose battery terminals can be a pain in the ass.

Is the typical dragging starter sound normal ( you no,when you hit the start button,it turns over once, then 5 seconds later it decides to turn over until it cranks)or should it turn over and crank every time I want it too.I prefer the latter of the two.

When mine is cold it does the same thing,
but when it warms up it's fine.
I think it's hard to turn over those
big pistons with the higher compression
our bikes have. I think!

Mine had the same hesitation on starting, worse when its cold.

I did the Tech tip.

TT399 – December 17, 2008 - Buell Ulysses Ground Repair 2006 – 2009

and that fixed it.
