I think I've read that some of you have installed a timer to turn on your HIDs after a period of time to avoid the extra flicker caused by starting the bike. I was thinking about this and being that the flicker is less than 1 second it might be easier to just install a capacitor on the input to the ballast? Cap will hold the rail long enough to cover the <1s drop in the supply. That's the thought anyway. Does anyone see a problem with doing this? |

I had a concern with the flickering of the HID when starting. I was afraid it would damage the ballast. I installed a switch on the handle bar that shuts down the control power to the added relay. I shut the light off when I shut down the motor and turn the light on after starting. Simple and solves the problem. |

Drive the HID's or HID's relay with the factory lighting wire. Then they will be off when the starter is cranking. If you use the O/W wire in the headlight connector it is hot while cranking and you will get flicker. If you use the blue wire going to the LH switch cluster to keep L beam on with highs it will fire on with the key but shut down while cranking. I put in a relay that keeps both headlights off if you have the H beam switch on when turning on the key, great for doing service. When you switch to L beam lights turn on and L & H work as always. Very easy to wire in. Diagram is in earlier post. |

I think you would need a very large capacitor... more like a small battery. The timer delay is about $4 worth of parts at radio shack, and car stereo shops (and ebay) probably have relays with the timer built in. Or just a switch... |

Drive the relay off of the accessory outlet wire. The outlet does not power up until after the bike is running. I have my Motolights wired in this way. Mark in Arizona |

Just the opposite on the Pre 08 bikes, it runs as long as the key is either on or in park, doesn't even get cut when you press the starter. |
