Well as careful as I've been since my first two latches broke a couple years ago, might right side broke again yesterday. No hint of failure, no drama, just fell apart as I tried to lock it. I've never stressed these things since the initial problems surfaced, and maybe I was right when I told the ASM at the dealer that my warrantied pieces looked as crappy as the originals. I'll call BCS and register my concern, I'll call my original dealer who told me they'd replace the new ones if they broke  , and yeah I know it's nearly a year out of warranty but it is a design flaw and manufacturers are held responsible past warranty as I recall. If I had the bucks for a new set of cases I'd drop kick these POS things over the nearest ridge... I can deal with the leaks and crooked mounts but not with flimsy-ass latches. | ||

Since 1 of mine broke a couple weeks ago I put a long piece of velcro strap in my tank bag so if 1 brakes again I can strap the bag handle to the rack mount. | ||

I broke one before learning how to operate them. Nearly three years and a little wear showing, but still functional. Warning? No. It doesn't even leave a mint on the pillow after. | ||

I've had two failures without abuse. I always carry a spare and keep my belongings in liner bags for future eminent failure. The replacements are supposed to be stronger, but I don't believe it. They should be metal, not cheap arse plastic. I wonder if they placed a wire skeleton inside the plastic molding, would it help? That way they wouldn't have to retool any forms. | ||

You got no warning it was about to let go? Nope, in none of the breakages. And like I said, I've been careful. I always fully close the case with the handle first before I push down the latch to lock it. This break was different this time, instead of the little hinge pin rings snapping it was the narrow tab between the latch and the clamping part that sheared. It may have broken even before I opened the case since I noticed it when I tried to lock it and that's when the parts separated. Since I've ridden with web safety straps retaining the lids after the first failures the lid stayed put. |
