So its a sad day for me gentleman....

I happened to look at the forecast and it isnt looking too pretty (of course typical CO weather in March).

I am going to have to start my journey back to WI a few days early to hopefully ride in between the 2 storms that could potentially cause me a lot of pain and heartache.

I will be leaving on Wednesday morning probably real close to 4 am to try to get as much riding in as possible before I have to stop for the evening. What better way to test the bike and me by trying to hit 900 miles in a day.

Thanks to everyone out here for their support and I will definitely be back in the area in probably June/July timeframe!

I guess I will have to bring it back to WI in June when I made the trek up there.

A major Winter storm is on track to affect all of Southeast Colorado Thursday and Friday. Winter Storm Watches are in effect for the entire region. This storm has the potential to bring local snow accumulations of a foot or more over the mountains, and possibly portions of the Plains. Travel will likely become hazardous over the Interstate 25 corridor by late Thursday or early Friday, particularly the higher elevations north of Colorado Springs and south of Pueblo. Stay tuned for the latest forecasts of this potentially dangerous Winter storm.

Chris, I hope you did not try to leave at 4am. I think the best time will be around noon. You should be able to make it out of the affected area by the time the bad stuff happens.

Frank

Hey guys!

Well I am safely back in WI.... Let me tell you it was one hell of an adventure/nightmare getting back to WI though.

So I left on Wednesday morning at about 8 AM and there was some snow on the ground (maybe an inch) and I knew Denver was hit the night before so I decided to take hwy 24 east towards Limon to hook up with I-70 (thinking to myself (farther south=warmer weather....WRONG) So I am leaving the springs and the temp is right near the freezing mark and the roads are garbage so I stopped out in Falcon to fill up with gas and air down my tires for a bit wider footprint, just as I pull into the gas station the bike starts running like crap (almost seemed like it was only firing on one cylinder). So I limp it into the station and fill up checking out the bike and I cant find anything wrong with it and both headers are hot and no check engine light.
I get done filing up the bike and dropping the air pressure and then start the bike up and both cylinders come to life like nothing is wrong. I then head out of CO hitting a fricken snowstorm in Kansas. So now it was snowing and I couldnt see anything I pull in for gas and see how the weather is out east and north. I then make the decision to hit up one of the north south highways and head north to get into Nebraska. Just as I do that the snow stops and switches to rain! Now its raining out and I am looking as far as I can see and it doesnt look like its going to let up at all. So I put my rain gear on and hit the road again. About 60 miles into the rain storm the bike starts acting up on me again and all I can think is "I am going to be stranded in the middle of nowhere Kansas!" The bike gave me issues for a good 300+ miles, it would act like it was running on one cylinder but both headers would always be hot. It would let me keep a steady speed but as soon as I tried to speed up or slow down then it would start to act like it wasnt getting enough fuel. There was actually a couple times it totally died on me doing 80 on the highway. I would get it over to the side of the road and then it would take me a good 5-10 minutes to get it started again. So I get out of the rain storm finally and by this time its like 3 or 4 pm and I think to myself "hey I have a few hours of daylight left to dry out..." Well I stick it out until about 10:30 when I couldnt feel my feet anymore and my gloves were soaked and my polly grip heaters werent doing the trick anymore. So I stopped just outside of Grinell Iowa for some shut eye and get up the next morning around 7 and of course my bike doesnt want to fire. It took me a good 10 minutes to get it started and just as my battery was about to die from trying to start the pig it finally fired. When it did start it was doing the same crap still acting like it wasnt getting enough fuel and it actually backfired a couple times. During this whole ordeal never once was there a check engine light which sucks because then I could at least narrow down the issue. So in the end I got back to WI on thursday afternoon just in time to get hit with another snow storm!

So anyone have any clues whats up with my bike? The only thing that I can really see is with all the moisture that enough water made it up into my intake and was causing the issues. I started the bike up yesterday and it fired right away so I dont get it. I was thinking fuel pump, but I can still hear the thing running so I am not too sure if that is it or not. The only other thing I can think of is the ECM is being tempermental. Anyone else ever have any issues like this?.....and please dont tell me BAS because I HIGHLY doubt that is the case.

Chris, thanks for checking in and I am glad you made it home safe and sound. Hopefully you will be able to make it out again this summer and if not maybe I will see you at homecoming.

Sorry, I cannot help with the bike. I am an idiot when it comes to XBs. Did you check the BAS? just kidding! Sounds like spark, coil, regulator or just a short.

Frank,
I am planning on another trip out there this summer. While I was in CO my buddy Jake and I spent 2 days in Moab and I definitely want to go back there with the Uly. Its only 6 hours from Colorado Springs and well worth the ride. Maybe we can find a time that a few of us Uly riders can make a trip out there!

Chris, there is a little known place called Gateway Colorado and the only thing in that town is a resort that is nice and cheap. It is a short ride to Moab. I am going to take Lynn out there this May for a little getaway. We will ride into Moab for a day.

When you come back out let me know.

Frank

Glad your back ! I ride with a tank bag, and It probably helps direct more water to the Uly 's air intake. My bike worried me the first time, but once dry all is well.
