So, I made it down to 215 lbs., and that's close enough to begin looking around for the '09 blue Uly (XB12X) that I want. I stopped into the local Tucson HD/Buell dealership, and was somewhat underwhelmed. They're more interested in getting rid of the 2008 Uly on hand than in finding me an '09. Maybe I can't blame them too much for that - they didn't have an '09 on the floor, but they did have an '08 in blue (the right color, at least). No test ride, but I did that last year at the Chandler store in Phoenix on an XT. I figure that the 2 bikes are pretty close as far as handling goes. Both are certainly pretty far away from the cruiser I'm riding now. I found out I can get one foot down comfortably, and both down at the balls of my feet (5' 10", 30" inseam). I've spent enough time on enduro's that that's really all I need. I'll probably check back in with the local folks first, though, to let then know that I'm not interested enough in the '08 (especially at the price they quoted me) to pick it over an '09. Maybe they'll come through then, if I can dash their hopes of unloading their stock on hand. I'll call the sales guy tomorrow. I do have to say that the salesman that spent the time with me was anxious to show off his Buell smarts. He did pretty good, too, even if he wasn't a Bueller. I gotta give him points for that. If I strike out at the Tucson store, I reckon I'll try the 3 dealerships in the Phoenix area next, and maybe even the one down south of here in Sierra Vista after that. Sierra Vista's smaller even than Tucson, but they are right outside Ft. Huachuca, and all that transient military might make the dealership bigger than the size of Sierra Vista warrants. It's certainly worth a shot, though. Then, I'll begin looking further afield if I have to. I'm not necessarily against the "fly and buy" concept, I'm just cheap (and I'm REALLY not all that fond of flying, either). |

Use the phone and see what the different stores say. ie. whats in stock, how much, and test ride the taller bike before you buy it. It's not an XT, it is different. Let them know you are talking to other dealers. It is a buyers market. Someone posted on here about saving a few thousand dollars by buying out of state and flying there to pick it up. Just don't burn any bridges, you may need service somewhere. Be nice, and let them court you. |

Sierra Vista is fresh out of all Buells. They even sold all the used ones. I can stop in and look to see if they are getting any in for you. I'm on the Fort. I talked with a guy last week that got a 08 XT for under 10,000 OTD from Tucson in January. He liked dealing with the Tuscon guys also and felt good about his deal. BTW the SV H/D did have one of those new XR1200 if your into the look. I'm not a xr1200 party go'er. |

Congrats Bttrthnwrk You should be very proud of yourself. You deserve the bike you want but I dont think theres much difference between the 08 and 09.You will get used to the height quickly. Enjoy! |

'09s get blacked out parts, and a factory bazootie on the handlebar for the clutch cable. Other than that, same as '08s. |

Hey, the heavier you are, the easier it will be to flat-foot the bike at a stop. |

I went to the dealer that I liked and ordered what I wanted. It took a month and a half to get but it was worth it. Why is it you don't want the faster, tougher orange ? |

Skinstains: > Why is it you don't want the faster, tougher orange ? Well, you asked... See, there's really only one color, and that's not "orange." It's blue. All the other colors are really just different shades of blue. For instance, the shade of blue that many folks think of as "black" is really just a very, very dark blue. The shade of blue that most folks know as "white" is really just a very light shade of blue. Of course, those "colors" (really just shades of blue) that many think of as "orange" or "red" are really just blue, but from 'way deep in either left field or right field. There! I've pretty much run through all the various shades of blue that Uly's can come in, right? Well, there's the one known in places as "camo" but that's really just various washed-out shades of blue all pushed together. Rotorhead: Thanks for the offer, but I've tracked down an '09 at one of the Phoenix area dealerships. Besides, I haven't given up completely on the Tucson folks - I just maybe need to nudge them a little about the price of the '08 they quoted. We'll see. Mnrider: Thanks. It's been a LONG trip getting here. I started on June 24, 2007. I weighed more than I'm gonna say, but I've lost over 100 lbs so far, now that I'm at 215. My 800 cc Suzuki cruiser sure is a lot quicker now. Handles better, too. (no, not as well as I expect a Uly to handle, but better than it did a year or 2 ago, for sure). Ratbuell: Was that really all the differences between an 08 and an 09? I thought the belt, bearings, and some other stuff had changed, as well. Maybe I'm thinking of the differences between the '07's and the '08's, though. Besides, can one really quantify the innate value of a bazootie? Isn't it one of those things, like love, or iced mocha cappuccino, that defy mere mundane considerations? Hooper: Since I haven't stopped losing weight yet, you're saying I'm just going to make it harder on myself? Sorry, but it's worth it. I'll just suffer, and maybe turn down the preload as time goes on... Shopping goes on. Pix and news when the time comes. |

First post on this forum! Just brought my XB12XT home on Saturday. It's a 2008 (25th Anniversary Edition) and was new/never titled but has some miles. It was the pace bike for the Missouri sector of the Race Across America bicycle race. It's an awesome bike for sure and at 6'5", 240lbs it's the perfect height and weight for me. Any hints/suggestions I should know about?

I picked up my 08 XT from a dealer in SoCal last OCT. Although not exactly pleased with the OTD price, they did throw in some extras (helmet, some bags, etc.). So, that may be an option for you also, if you decide on the 08 vs. 09. If you compare just the specs on Buell's website, you'll see there is very few (any?) differences between the two. Also, excuse the newbness, but WTF is a bazootie? Sorry, still getting the lingo down... Russ |

Mideon, You have a headlight out. Verdad, BAZOOTIE!?!?, How could you buy one without knowing what a bazootie is? A piece used on the 09X to attach the clutch cable to the handle bars and keep it out of your line of sight when looking at your speedo. here is an aftermarket bazootie

Mnrider - Yah just gott'a give us details on how you did the camo. Have no intention of doing it - I want to be REALLY VISIBLE -but that is terrific. Want to know how to do it in case I become so skilled I can anticipate people pulling in front of me. |

Actually that is my bike and my fat little mitt in the picture. That was at Homecoming 24, in 2007. Court took the picture. Crusty made a one time run of custom made, very precise, and the originally named "Bazooties" for the event. He so generously gave them out to many of us going to the event. He even went so far as to include an extra screw and an allen wrench in a labeled package. That Crusty is a special kind of Bueller for sure. Last year he and his terrific wife and daughter made "Loud Fans Save Lives" T shirts and sent them out to. They are the kind of people that Buell and BadWeB are about! Thanks again Crusty! |

Thanks for the history, Etennuly. Sounds like us newbies (or soon to be newbies with any kind of luck) have a lot to live up to. On a different note, my wife is talking about putting the (probably soon to be) new Uly in the truck and hauling it back home, assuming we can come to some kind of agreement with the dealer. Me, I'm thinking about experimenting with the MotoMan break-in on the 150 or so miles between the dealership and my house. The weather promises to be adequate that weekend. Being in southern Arizona has certain advantages at this time of year, after all... Anyway, any advice about the kind of break-in I do? |

"Then, I'll begin looking further afield if I have to. I'm not necessarily against the "fly and buy" concept, I'm just cheap (and I'm REALLY not all that fond of flying, either)." If you end up looking as far afield as Chicago, I'd be happy to ride it to Arizona for you in exchange for a one-way flight back... (I guess your reluctance to fly would have to out-weigh your cheapness.) And speaking of weight, congrats on the loss! |

As far as break in goes, I bought a new '05 XB9SX at the end of '04. I followed the factory slow-go procedure to the letter. It seemed to work fine. On the other hand, I bought my '06 Uly new in '06 and on the test ride we were doing 80 mph up the four-lane when it had 1 mile on it. 35,000 miles later it still runs strong, doesn't smoke, and doesn't use more than a pint or so between oil changes. I'd say ride it, just don't hold it at one speed in one gear. |

Vern; thank you for your kind words. My family and I are just trying to "pay it forward" to the Buell community. The Buell owners I've met have been some of the most helpful and genuine people I've ever associated with. As far as Break-in goes; the 2008 break-in procedure is somewhere between the old Slow factory recommendation, and the Motorman method. I'd say just use common sense. Don't lug the motor, don't beat on it and vary the engine speed. Change the oil every 2,000-3,000 miles. It should live a long and happy life. |

Valencia is the only real orange, that other color is really a yellow that failed the red test and didnt make it all the way to orange. |

Troy; I'm afraid that there won't be another run of Bazooties. To get the original batch done was difficult; and I lost access to the CNC just after they were done. I'm not a Machinist by any stretch of the imagination. I have just been lucky to be associated with a Toolmaker on one job, and an Engineer on another job who were willing to help me out and tell me exactly what to do. I am trying to come up with something for Homecoming this year, but right now it isn't looking too probable. |

Brian; I know that the little "enhancements" aren't necessary. It's just that it's usually so much fun coming up with them, and they contribute to people having a more memorable experience. Hell, there isn't a whole lot to do in New England in the middle of winter, so coming up with ideas helps me pass the time until spring and warmer weather arrives. |
