First I want to thank all of you who have helped me starting out with my new Uly. I have learned a bunch from you all. I don't even have a real license plate and I am getting close to 1,000 miles. I need a service manual, but 1) I am surprised such a forward thinking company just doesn't give you one, and 2) that it is not on the web. KTM gave me one, Yamaha gave one, and Honda sucks. What is the deal?

KTM gives you a free service manual?

quote:

Consumers may order KTM manuals from their local KTM dealer.

I'm curious as my riding partner bought a 690 Duke last week. He got access to the online Owner's Manual (just like Buell, except Buell also provides a paper version) but he was not given a Service Manual.

OK, I get the picture cough-up the $60. I just would have liked to spend the money on other things for the bike. Yes, I have never seen a KTM without a service manual. (KTM service manuals are scary. Nobody with job does all the things they want you to do.) But I do not know about their new bikes. Perhaps KTM has stopped giving one out as well. Just a tax for working on your own bike? On the other hand the Owners manual you get with the Ulysses is probably the best I have ever seen.

Wait till you see the Service Manual . . . one of the best, car or bike, ever and well worth the price.

You can save a couple of bucks getting the service manual on eBay too. FWIW, I have never been given a service manual with any vehicle.

I don't see it as a "tax" for working on your own bike. It's more a matter of not everyone wanting to work on their own bike, so it saves what...six or seven pounds of paper.

I do have one for each of my Buells. Definitely money well spent!

Just don't use the torque spec for the oil drain plug! I am not sure if it has been fixed in the book yet, but it caused a few to replace or repair swing arms.

I have owned 5 KTM's, 4 of which I bought new from 1999-2004, and none came with a true service manual.
No bike I have bought has, including BMW, Ducati, Honda, Buell.

However, I give KTM BIG props, because all my KTM's did come with a set of parts manuals (1 for engine, 1 for chassis), in addition to the rather detailed owners manual. The owners manual is much better than others in the many service procedures it dictates (valve adjustment, etc), but it is not a true service manual.

Maybe you have a dealer that throws in these as a special, or consider the above manuals to be the service manual?

FWIW, the Buell 2006 Uly manual I bought (<$60) is very good in most respects, and was a lot cheaper than the service manual for my 2000 BMW ($110).
Of course, BMW really doesn't want you working on your own bike, and pretty much says this at the front of the manual!
(It actually says "do you really know what you are doing")

In 1972 I bought a 1958 BMW R 26. It came with a Service Manual, but I think the previous owner had bought it, then threw it in with the deal.

I have a service manual for every one of these bikes but the Buell and I did not buy one, and yes my bike did come with gas (fulltank, I made sure) and oil.

Is it me or is 9 a magic number? 9 is the most bikes I ever owned at the same time and my riding partner, when he bought his Super Duke last week, just hit 9.

I think it's a special number!

Cool fleet!

It is 10 and I lied I don't have service manual for the TTR90 (Don't need one). I have always wanted to ride every kind of motorcycle I could, but I have to admit the Ulysses so far is the best all-round bike I have ever ridden. In the end though I never met a bike I didn't like. Yes, I am a motorcycle . What can't say ? Can you say slut? Guess so.
