Just got back from the surgeon; she is VERY pleased with how my arm/wrist is healing (we're all fast healers, right?); she said that I can ride a motorcycle starting NOW!

Gonna do my commute tomorrow; maybe a shortish ride this weekend. But---surely you saw this coming---I've gotta do "Dr. Greg's Shakedown Cruise II" over the same 540-mile route as before...maybe in a couple weeks.

And yes, I'll try to put up something of a ride report.

Oops, gotta finish that GC RR on ADV...well, this weekend for sure.

Anyway, I'm supremely happy!

And the New Mexico weather is beautiful right now; should stay good through Saturday, the iPhone says rain on Sunday.

Your wrists healed fast? Guess you weren't performing excessive repetitive activities then ; )

Good luck : )

Two months almost to the day. It was actually my left forearm right down near the wrist. Hand surgeon did the job though, nice lady, too. Didn't flinch when I asked about riding the bike (Mrs. Greg did, though...)

Make sure you're not on a bike that vibrates or shakes too much...

Congrats, Doc. Great news. How's the collarbone? Mine required surgery and took a LONG time to heal, so I'm kinda jealous. Maybe you're just REAL spry.....

Awesome news. Sounds like when I asked my leg ortho if I could ride when he cleared me for work - he was so amazed I wasn't hanging it up, he got a huge smile and said "sure man, if you feel comfortable enough, go for it!".

My wife had a much different expression on her face. : )

Take 'er easy, and stick to shorter rides for a little bit. That little bit of weight on your hands turns into a LOT of weight on an injured wing. Keep that "route home" button handy on the GPS, in case stuff starts hurting.

Now, stop reading and go out and ride! : )

I understand. My shoulder feels pretty good, although a longer ride will put it to more of a test. My clavicle was a comminuted (i.e. multiple pieces) fracture; I was surprised they didn't "fix" it. But nooooo...

So now it's pretty misshapen. But it works.

The commute this morning was, um, a bit anxious. In my efforts to get the bike all ready last night I didn't check the clutch or shift lever adjustment. Clutch is set to engage WAAAAYY out there (as per FSM), and I have small hands. Also shift lever was off. Both easily fixable, of course.

The final thing was that I have a new helmet (of course), and I DID try it on after buying (I bought the same Shoei Hornet DS I crashed in), but I forgot to remove the protective plastic cover from the face shield. When I flipped the visor down and noticed it there was too much traffic (and of course I'm wearing gloves). There was a big white sticker right over my left eye.

I rode all the way to work and removed it in the parking lot. Silly.

I am just trying to figure out how he is going to top the deer strike for his next ride report : )

Give NBC a call, your life would be a great reality show.

Doc-

I'm still jealous. Mine was a multiple pieces fracture, caused by a deer, and I was off the bike for four months.

Good for you, though. Hope you're enjoying that new bike. Please check the helmet BEFORE commuting next time. Cheers.

Great news! Getting back on that horse is a great idea. Just remember: you have nothing to prove. You can take your time. We're all pretty impressed already.

Wonderful recovery Doc! - In our 60s, we still heal like 59 year olds. My left eye can only see out 50' so never noticed the impairment - Thought it was just HJC courtesy eyetest. Thanks for the tip - better now.

I'm not better than anybody. A little more cantankerous, if anything.

But, guys...my FIRST REAL RIDE!! I was ready to do the 540-mile "Shakedown Cruise" y'unnerstand, but Mrs. Greg---the voice of reason---said "maybe a shorter ride?..."

So...a shorter ride. To wit, 30 miles out and 30 miles back. Both Saturday and Sunday (same route). And my left wrist and shoulder were indeed a little tired. I forgot my camera (turns out tank bag is totaled...straps ripped completely off, and that's where camera goes) but Mrs. Greg took this pic upon my return...

The route has some good curves, and it was a fun ride. The "new" '06 Uly seems good; after 120 miles it got 48 mpg. And that included some hills and headwind. So I think it's OK.

Next weekend I'm goin' for a 90-100 mile loop on both days, and see how that goes. And the weekend after that...????

P.S. I FINALLY finished my Grand Canyon ride report on ADV...in case anyone is still following.

Glad to see the "FANHEAD" sticker is still alive and well. Keep up the good work on your injury and take more breaks while riding give them joints and bones a rest.
