Folks: I have seen several pics of folks that have painted the silver inserts of their HB bags. I would also like to do mine, and was wondering what type of rattle can paint is best to use on these bags and should a primer layer be put on? I want some sort of black, maybe a semi-gloss or even a light crinkle. Thanks | ||

I think its Krylon that makes a paint that "bonds" to plastic. Check Home Depot. I want to say it's called Krylon Fusion. I painted mine orange to match my bike on a whim, to see if I liked it. I love it, but it's time to do it "right" - I only "prepped" by wiping with brake cleaner, and used Testors model paint. Needless to say, I'm having adhesion issues. If you pull your Buell emblems off for paint, and one gets boogered...they're cheap. 90098-05Y, 3.50/each. | ||

Thanks Crusty!  If you want a really good semi-gloss black get SEM brand trim paint. Comes in a professional spray can. This is pro body shop type paint in a spray bomb, not cheap, but it will give pro results that will adhere well. You will also have plenty left for other projects or retouching. I would recommend you remove the panels, mask or remove the decals. I use a Scotch Brite pad with warm soapy dish water to clean and sand them, you do not need to scrub hard, just thoroughly, the entire surface to be painted should be dull from the sanding. With this material and this color application I would just lint free tack wipe and blow them dry then hang them on fine wire and paint them. Put on one coat at a time and always spray the edges first. When you have good color coverage put one more coat on. I usually spray a piece of tape or something as I am painting the parts to test for dryness between coats, you should be able to touch it with out leaving a mark. It becomes a whole different monster when color-matching and using professional paints. It gets into solvent cleaners, plastics adhesive coats and base coats, catylists, thinners, clear coats, sanding, buffing. |
