Would like to hear from anyone using this system....am riding 08 xt...and wind noise is my big issue. Have tried different helmets with no diff. So am considering diff windshields etc.. All feedback is appreciated. Love the Buell | ||

I got the Strada brackets. Similar setup as madstad but you don't need to replace your stock flyscreen, and uses any Uly shield. Madstad requires you use Suzuki shields. | ||

Newbie1 - Like Froggy I have the Strada brackets. Also have a ZG+4 & Parabellum cut to 16". Prefer the Para for touring - about 6" wider than stock and 4" wider than ZG, wraps around a bit which provides good wind / road debris protection over stock set up. Whatever windshield you choose, get the brackets. They improve air flow dynamics significantly. Also earplugs are a good choice - like riding gear & VISA, I don't leave home without them. | ||

Suzuki shields?? Would think any screen that fits the Uly will work with the Madstad brackets. I'm currently using a Parabellum with my MadStad bracket. For the cold weather I am currently running with the 26" wind screen. (had the 16" on for a little while.) With that big a windshield I had to have them replace the thumb screw with a real screw for the winter. As for wind noise.... its a funny thing. Charly at Parabellum used my bike to create his shields.. so I got to use most of the sizes. The wind coming off his sheilds is pretty clean. With that said.. if you get the wind off the top of the sheild (any shield) it will make some noise. The worst noise (not turbulance) was when the from the sheild was right at the bottom of my helmet. With the MadStad bracket.. you can make lots of adjustments. However, If you get the wrong size screen it still may not get it exactly like you want. Its a very personal thing... the brackets, size of windsheild and the size of the rider all affect. What works for me will likely not work for others. I've come to the conclusion that its virtually impossible to get it just right unless you have access to multiple screen sizes/shapes to experiment with. | ||

I had the same 16" Parabellum on the stock fly screen and on the MadStad brackets.... everything matchs perfectly. I'm guessing that refers to his Original Madstad brackets that were made for the V-Strom??? He has 2 versions one for the V-Strom one for the Uly. Just a guess. | ||

I wanted the metal fly screen for the strength. When I was initially testing the Large Parabellum shields with the stock fly screen there was a lot of movement. Thats why Charly @Parabellum add the additional supports. Based on what I experienced with that .. I decided that I would only add the adjustable mount if someone came up with a stronger base. MadStad did that with the aluminum fly screen replacement. At least for me.. it gives me peace of mind that the fly screen won't come apart during the winter months when I have the larger sceens on. | ||

I have the MADSTAD system and have found it to be high quality and strong as hell. I have the tall ULY screen mounted right now and have it adjusted to give no buffeting at all. The directions say to stop to do your adjustments, but with a throttle lock and a straight road you can do it. I have found that I get more wind noise from under the handle bars and up the front of the frame than over the top of the windscreen. I'm only 5'7 and have the 06 low seat so it has worked out great for me. The stock 06 screen works well also, but I'm short enough to make it work. | ||

I have been using the Madstad for a few months now and really like it. It took quite a bit of trial and error to get the adjustment just right because I was moving it too far each time. When I started moving it 1/4" at a time I found the "sweet spot". I change windshields often using the stock shield in warm weather and the MP Cycle Design shield for the cool weather. If you are using this on an XT you may want to try an X shield in place of the taller XT one. | ||

Try putting your left arm across your chest when riding to check out wind noise. You will find a lot coming from below, across the top of the airbox cover. Move your arm around, up and down to block this air flow and see how much difference this makes. Memphis Shades makes small wind deflectors that clamp onto the fork tubes that will stop this. | ||

I bought the Madstad brackets and windshield last fall and rode with it until it got snowy and really cold. Huge improvement over stock! Still was adjusting for different riding situations and small adjustments do make a difference. I posted about rattling with the stock horn against the aluminum shield on an earlier thread. Used it as an excuse to get a stebel airhorn. Can't wait til spring! | ||

Nope, you need a Strada setup! I have seen the Madstad in person, they look good but replacing the flyscreen is epic failure in my book. | ||

I'm happy with my Madstad. I also had the horn rattle.....just reverse the bracket and all is quiet  I also bought an extra aluminum flyscreen without the mounting holes so I can ride naked (so to speak). Pete | ||

I got so much stuff to put on my bike already and I haven't turned one stupid screw yet ! I need to stop working so I can take care of the important things in life. I haven't even tried my new to me kickstand. I've had the bike since the 12th and haven't even broke 1000 miles yet. How come I'm out of work untill I get my bike and then everyone has an emergency for me to take care of ??? Sorry for the rant but I needed to vent. | ||

I am still waiting for my Uly brackets to come in, but there is no need for the metal on the Lightning. Also back when I had my old Uly, other than the windshield coming off I never had any issues that would be resolved by an aluminum screen. Nobody else here with the Strada setup has mentioned any issues with the plastic either. Also the biggest problem with the metal screen, they don't make it in translucent Hero Blue! |
