Heard this from a Harley salesman buddy today and sounds pretty darn good. Here it is: Anybody who owns an 07', 08', 09' Harley can trade their bike in at the dealer they bought it from for the amount they paid for it toward a new 09' Harley. Only on Dec 26th of this month. He said it will be advertised on the Harley-Davidson.com site and dealerships can opt in or out of this promo. They just got the email from Harley this morning. It might be 06, 07, 08, as I can't remember exactly, but my wife's 07 XL1200R falls in either way. The other thing I'm not sure of is whether it has to be at the dealer you purchased it from, but probably is. Anyway, this salesman friend said that people will probably be lining up for this promotion. Now I just got to figure out how to talk the wife into trading for that XR1200 on the 26th. |

Dealers can opt out of the program. Promotion is actually from 26Dec thru 28Feb2009. Currrent owners of 2007MY, 2008MY and 2009MY. Purchasers of new Sportsters between 26Dec - 28Feb2009 will be able to own the bike for one full year and then trade in with the same offer. ~jammer |

Jammin, Is it just owners of Sportsters or also 07 thru 09 big twins? Do the dealers have to foot the bill on this or is corporate covering this? Is it just for purchasing 09' Sportsters or any 09' Harley? |

Promo cost is shared by Motor Company and dealer, thus the opt out options. From my first glance, it is not necessarily a slam dunk winner for a dealer if they've been fair and competitive on trade values and pricing all along. It is only on trading in Sportsters toward purchase of new big twins, not Buells. Maybe v-rods, not sure though. And the trade in is on MSRP and factory installed options cost only, not mark ups, taxes, freight, set up, title fees, or accessories you had added. ~jammer |

People are buying lots of Hogs in Omaha at both dealers according to what they have told me but in general most folks are holding on to their money to see what the future holds. |

Harley has had this same promotion numerous times in the past- it is nothing new and does not indicate something wrong. The last time they had this promo was in 04 if I remember correctly. (Any further than yesterday and it gets fuzzy) |

either the XR1200 or an '07 XB12SS I don't want anything newer than that, my '08 still has fuel mapping issues and the local dealer has given up on it. they say its fine, that's the way it should be. i'm done with new Buells, I'm tired of the problems, and the worthless dealers... |
