Doc, man I hate to see that happen. I felt like I was with you while you worked on your bike due to your pics and write ups.

I hope you feel better and soon. Any bike, no matter what shape it is in can be rebuilt.

Doc, That's terrible. I hope you recover soon. You seem to have a great attitude about it all.

I'm eager for the rest of the story. I hope your wife didn't drive up with the truck to find you surrounded by paramedics.

Sorry to hear about the dear incident. Will be praying for your complete speedy recovery.

It's a shame that one of the hunters being welcomed by the banners on Uncle Bill's or the store at Apache Creek didn't take out bambi before he took you out. Why aren't those re-introduced gray wolves doing their job?

Geez Doc - What a mess... the deer looks a bit disheveled too. You've certainly had your share of "adventures" lately. Glad youre reasonably unscathed & don't look like the front of the Uly. I 'bumped' one of those ubiquitous Cervid's (makes me consider taking up hunting again) last year on my KLR - busted windshield & some minor scrapes - but I've been 'rubber side up' so many times on it in Baja that a little more damage is hardly noticeable. Just put a set of Distanzias on the Uly, and was going to inquire what pressure you recommend...but somehow that doesn't seem particularly important at the moment. Heal quick ! Regards, John

Doc-

Hope you don't mind a question about your unplanned getoff(and not meaning to threadjack). I, too, have met Bambi with unfortunate results. You had your piaa's on when it happened, right? Was the light beam not projected far enough or did the deer just jump out in front of you? Also glad to hear you're (relatively) unscathed.

or did the deer just jump out in front of you?

I'd be curious too.

Deer are some amazingly stupid creatures. Every time I've had incidents, or near incidents, it was because they watched me come down the road, and decided to bolt in front of me when I got close.

The deer must have jumped. The road was quite straight and my focus was definitely on the road. PIAAs were giving me a superlative view; don't blame them.

I have MUCH more to describe and MANY more pics. However, I'm typing with only my right index finger, so please be patient.

The camaraderie here is THE BEST. I feel like you guys (any ladies out there?) are my brothers. And I'm an only child.

Gonna see another doc this afternoon. Feels like I might have a cracked rib. I definitely got worked over pretty good. At age 61 prolly not gonna mend as fast as I used to...however, like all you guys, I'm still a "fast healer."

Doc,

I'm terribly sorry to hear that you took a tumble or got into a rumble with the deer but I'm glad that you're going to be ok. Back in my earlier (much earlier) days I hit a car broadside @ 50mph so I can identify with the broken bones. Too I'm happy to hear that your spirit isn't broken and as soon as you heal you'll be back on a Uly. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I've just stumbled upon your whole collection of posts. What an adventure, all of it; at least you're OK in the end. Your teardown(s) of the Uly qualifies you as a high Buell guru in my book, and the trip (well, minus the roadkill) looked awesome.

I hope you mend quickly, and I'm looking forward to more posts / pics in your ongoing saga.

Oh dear God!

I thought I had bad luck, but you my friend, have me beat.

I hope you heal fast, then get out the tools and fix the Uly AGAIN, and go on another ride, AGAIN, with a happen ending. : )

Bikes can be fixed, but sometimes people can't. Glad to know you're OK and if I have any parts laying around that might help you (mirrors, stock screen, bars) let me know. They are yours free of charge!

Cinch that collar bone brace up tight and it'll work better and be more comfortable. I've been thru two collarbones. They suck. I feel your pain.

Let's see;
1. You blew a spark plug and fixed it.
2. Major oil leaks and you fixed it.
3. Suicidal Bambi explosion.

If bad luck truly comes in threes then your good to go!!

Joking aside, reading this thread has actually made me physically ill. When I saw the picture of the demised deer I thought you were joking, until I saw the bike. I'm in disbelief. Glad your doing much better than Bambi.

Criminy-

After re-reading this thread, let me reiterate my thanks to your relative good fortune. 75 mph against a deer of decent size could have been a very bad scene, indeed. Mt getoff was between 60-65, the deer was a baby(small), and like you, my gear saved my life. ATGATT! Glad you're still with us.

Yes bad luck comes in 3's. Last year had 3 wrecks in 3 weeks. Bike didn't survive the last one thanks to the over zealous insurance company. Anyway been a year and I haven't even knocked the thing off the stand : )

Shakedown cruise indeed! Glad to hear that you are more or less ok. Thanks for the graphic ATGATT reminder.

Those dang deer NEVER carry insurance either.
