Hi, ya'll. I'm usually content to just lurk around here, but I thought I might share this with you and see what you all think. I was looking through my pictures just now. I've got several good ones, but this one in particular is a bit spoiled for me.
It's not a bad picture, really; about a 40 - 45 mph corner, nothing too extreme. I didn't even bother to back my boot up onto the pegs. Well, as I pull over to turn around, a Harley rider who was coming the other way (with no helmet on) pulls over next to me and scolds, "You shouldn't be doing that." Doing what?!? Has anything like this ever happened to you, or was this guy just from another planet? |

From the picture... it looks like you are on the wrong side of the rode. If that is the case then... he has a point. |

Is Texas left side drive? He is on the right. Well he is a Harley rider, so his arguments are invalid:P |

Well, as I pull over to turn around... Maybe he was referring to the way you pulled over ? I wouldn't lose to much sleep over it though. |

I think he meant leaning the bike like that. He must have figured you were dragging lots of chrome and foot boards and stuff. Either that or he was referring to the insane grin inside the helmet. Harley riders don't grin like that. You distracted him. |

Maybe pulling over and making a U-e after a turn where people coming wouldn't see you, or you wouldn't see them, while you were also crossing a solid line? Sounds fine to me! |

Presenting a clean cut image on an American made bike maybe? Riding a bike with a 1203cc engine that makes over a 100bhp maybe? Had his wife/ole lady been on the back of your bike minutes before? What a mystery. |

He wouldn't want to see me coming through the corner toe dragging and my big butt hanging all the way off. Whenever I hear people critique my riding or one-wheeled antics on a 500lb beast I just always think to myself: "so says the one with no gear on" or "so says the one who's to big of a wimp to ride a motorcycle" |

Maybe he thought you should have the left headlight fixed? |

Maybe he meant wearing your 'lid so the mouth piece is nearly covering your eyes!!!! What's that all about! |

Cool. Thanks, guys. What better owners network is there than this? Which also begs the question, why must Buells be sold in Harley dealerships? BTW the yellow stripe is on the left. It's a nice, wide corner, lightly traveled, perfect for pictures. To give the hog rider the benefit of the doubt, it is a corner that temps you to go faster, but it's actually an 'S' curve, and the upcoming turn is tighter. It's tailor made for some fool to come dragging thru there only to go shooting off into the woods on the next turn. Still, I thought the scolding was a bit premature. |

Seanp nailed it. Did you have a camera on a tripod or sitting on a fence with a timer, or did someone take the photo of you? I've gotten a lot of strange looks from people when setting up a camera to take timer pictures. So he just rode off after saying that? |

I countered, but he just said the same thing again. I would've kept arguing, but it's hard to debate through an open visor, so I just let him have the last word and ride off. Plus, it's a good idea not to leave a beautiful woman on the side of the road for too long. |

To solve the mystery on the spot, I'd have asked me what the heck he was talking about. If he preaches that you were going too fast, I'd ask him which side of his head does he believe his brains would be squished out of if he gets hit my a car, even going slow. |

How do some of you ride with such massive weight of chips on your shoulders? wifey & I own and ride three Harley's and Buell, and have seen both sides of all kinds of stereo-typical riders. To pass judgment on them, even when ignorance reigns supreme, makes one no better than that which they cast judgment on. And from another perspective, I have no access to hard data, but from personal experience, most Buell riders of XB series, come from Harley ownership. ~jammer |

I've got a Harley too - NEVER thought I'd own one - but I found one that I really liked (Dyna Street Bob). That said, I definitely still chuckle when the stereotypes are all around me when I go to the dealer or to a memorial ride. The Harley brand image can be so strong at times that I even have second thoughts about wearing my armored nylon riding suit/gloves and full-face helmet when I take the Hog out for a spin. "Should I be wearing just jeans, leather jacket, and 2/3 helmet?" Then I think ATGATT. I love the diversity of riders, especially when they all mingle. |

He MUST have been talking about riding with a burnt out headlight! I would have thanked him for pointing that out, then rode past him on the rear wheel. (they love it, when you do that). |

Now I've got it. He must've thought I was turning around to pick up a hitch hiker. |

"You shouldn't be doing that." ...leaving a beautiful woman on the side of the road. Seems like a man of wisdom to me. |

Either that or he was referring to the insane grin inside the helmet. Harley riders don't grin like that. You distracted him. OK Fatty, let me splain it to you, you can get just as big a grin on a Harley as you do a Buell, you just have to work a lot harder to get it!!! Oh, as far as the Harley rider, I'm with Sachmo. |
