I had a weird one tonight- I dropped my 2007 Uly off at the dealer. I have a leak at the rear rocker box and I will have had the bike 2 years on December 6. The service guy pulls up my bike and says "Yes, this is definitely warranty work- your warranty runs out April 1, 2009." Hmmm? He showed me on the computer screen:

Warranty start: December 6, 2006
Warranty end: April 1, 2009

Has their computer got a glitch or did I stumble onto a secret unannounced warranty extension program? The only explanation he could think of was if I had been in the military overseas, which I haven't.

I bought mine in January 2007. They did offer a warranty extension at the time. I believe it was an extra 3 months or until April 2009. I printed out a copy of the webpage at the time just in case. I'm at work now but if you would like a copy just let me know.

If you buy in the winter you get a few months extra, its to make up for the losers that retire their bikes for the winter : )

That sounds like a problem a lot of people would like to have.

I purchased mine in Nov. 06 but did not take delivery until March 07, so I was sure to make it a point that the warranty should not be effective until I actually had possesion.
They were good about that request.

Ironically, I have the same bike with the same problem that is also currently in for service.

What is your current mileage?
The head gaskets and o rings have been replaced, but while making the repair the the tech noticed that one of the engine mounts was beginning to deteriorate. That part is also being replaced and paid for under warranty.

Next question: I just recieved an offer from Harley to extend my current warranty due to expire next March. Seems like a fairly good offer and may pay for itself should another issued arise like this.

Can I get some opinions about adding an exteded warranty close to the end of the factory one?

If you're considering an extended warranty, you HAVE to add it before the factory coverage expires. No lapse in coverage is allowed, unless the vehicle changes owners.

That said...if you aren't sure, get one year. In 11 months, you can add another...and another...depends on your comfort level and confidence level is all.

And yes, winter purchasers get "free" warranty coverage for the first winter months as a "perk" for buying a bike off-season instead of waiting till spring.

I got mine in November '06. What constitutes first winter months? Is my warranty gone, or do I have some left yet?

Stewadi- Yes, please if you've still got it. April 1 sure has the ring of a corporate joke, doesn't it?

I bought my Uly in Jan '08 and they did not start my warranty period until April '08.

That netted me 28 months of warranty.

H-D/Buell has one of the best warrantys in the entire motorcycle industry......and that is not just my opinion.......it's a fact.

I think they usually start the promo around the holidays...Nov/Dec. I'd have to check papers to verify, though.

If you have your VIN handy, send it to me and I can run it for you. Full VIN, not just the last part : )

In years past, like right now, the Motor Company offers a warranty extension, OEM style, over the winter months to give incentive to buy now rather than the spring. Right now, buy a previously untitled Buell or Harley and warranty lasts until 01April2011, in effect, adding 4-1/2 months of extra warranty at no cost.

Your professional sales person should have explained that to you, unless of course, through being nickel & dimed for price reductions and discounts on parts, your dealer doesn't train his employees and/or has near continuous turn over resulting in hiring younger and inexperienced sales people recently laid-off from Joes Auto Sales.

Dave- No rush at all. Since the dealer is telling me I've got more warranty than I thought I did, I probably don't need the proof. I just wanted it for reference. Thanks!

Does the extended warranty get extended too? Maybe I could move south for the winter...

Buellgrrrl my guess is that you would have to contact the warranty company, but I doubt it.
