Okc99 Posted "I like how you took a picture of her before picking her up. What if that was your wife/gf? You'd be in the dog house for sure." .......................o~'o My wife would not have fallen over when I nudged her as I attempted to mount her from the right side. If she did, then I'd be laughing. Besides, this was after some attempts to upright Joules. Being on a rather steep incline from the knoll I had parked on for a photo by the sign, I had to catch my breath (no small task at 12,000 feet) and wiggle & squirm it off the knoll to upright it. Tootal Posted Scratched my "Rosie's Brew Pub" bumper sticker, highest brewery in the Americas, Leadville, CO at 10,152 feet. "Now that's a damn shame. I just got finished folding my Rosie's Brew Pub T- shirt. It remains undamaged. " ........................o~'o Battle ships are safe in harbor but that is not what they are made for. ~jammer, been known to leave port in rough sees. |

Skyclad asked: "Why did you change to the Distanzia Tires? ....................o~'o Not meaning to hijack another riders thread but... In preparing for my travels to Moab last spring, I put the Distanzia on because it was a more aggressive tread pattern for off-roading. I felt the difference on sand and gravel. They didn't compromise road handling much either. The 160mm rear fit right on without any real coaxing too. But tread wear was about 40% less. ~jammer |

greenman44 wrote: "Dave, Are they hiring at your work? I could use a job, because my national guard training is almost over and yours looks like a good one, need an assistant? " .......................o~'o Yeah, I need an assistant, but the pay sucks. I am already damn near volunteer status. Good thing I don't eat much and my kids work, selling bikes in such economic times and competitive environment leaves little for the worker bees. Seriously, this time of year is typically rough at a motorcycle only shop, but 2008 looks to be the hardest in recent memory. You better keep that gubmint job. ~jammer |

I laugh out loud when I send my poor KLR-250 tumbling down (and even occasionally up) some hill. At least in the dirt. If it was on pavement, it could probably really break something. Cheap crappy motorcycles can be tremendously liberating... particularly when you have an entire parts bike in zip lock bags in the back of the garage. |

" .................o~'o Having broken more than one clutch and/or brake lever, and knowing Buell dealers are sometimes far between, I got wise and had spares of both and a clutch cable purchased already. But suffering from the need to relearn things I long ago knew, these parts were sitting 550 miles up north when Joules was on its side with a broken clutch lever at 12,000 feet near Engineers pass. The smart thing to do is wire-tie these small light parts to a frame member somewhere, like where I have them now! ~jammer |

More learnings from the "Adventure" of Buell Avon Distinzias with 3k miles are NOT good MUD tires Snow line forecast and snow line realities are not the same thing Any side dump that you can walk away from and recycle your BAS is just ok by me. Widdled wood will work in a pinch for missing parts (bar end grommet) Any directions from locals that start with "you cant get there from here" means you could, but you really shouldnt A gas gauge beats an idiot light every time. Spare gas is heavy. Pea gravel up the steep road is fun, coming back down it is not your friend. That road hog you passed going up the hill, still wont share when you are coming back down It aint an adventure if a Nissan Sentra can get there. Heuvos Rancheros and Chile Rellenos may sound like a good trail breakfast; you will regret that later. Riding directly into the sunset is not all the songs say it is. Washboard ruts at 25 suck, at 35 you're just hittin the tops That errand noise from younder could be an angry chainsaw or a two stroke hooligan; either way give wide berth. Never take directions from anyone named CLEM Tractors and trucks with snow plows always get the right of way. Black and white photocopies of maps dont tell you the real story of that squiggly line. And signs from the weekend Watch for Long HORN Ram Watch for Ice Primitive Road, County road ends Private property DumbA$$ SnowPark rest area Low flying aircraft Your Last gas for 75 miles |

Jammin_joules, I use the Distanzia's now, and really like them. I was asking City about the Pirelli MT60's, and how they compare to the Distanzias. I want to get a bit more aggressive, and the MT60's are about the only choice. |

More learnings from the "Adventure" of Buell All the spare parts & tools in the world back in your garage are of no help on the trail Never let a guy named Bucky advise you on motorcycle repairs You can speed shift for a considerably long time when your on a mountain and your clutch just broke. |

I was recommended the Distinzias by a guy that rides his Vstrom in the same areas that I ride my City-X. I have come to the conclusion, that I dont like them, I will not be revisiting them in future tire changes. My next set is the Avon SuperMoto Rain tire. I do NOT like the way the Distinzias wash out on pea gravel from 47-53 mph. I do NOT like how Distinzias with 3k on them are essentially slicks in the MUD. I do like the 180 size and their street manners, but the Pirelli Scorps worked better all around for my riding style. |

"WANTED: Riders forged in the spirit of Ulysses, to share their photos and stories of adventure for a new Adventure Gallery. If you have what we're looking for, it could pay off in a big way!" Damnnit, I better not be excluded from that for riding a City-X. I will have to get my other photos loaded. |
