Rode my buddies V Strom on the Dragon today. It handle well and the suspension was better then I expected it to be for a price point bike. It was very comfortable and I really liked the bike except for one thing. The motor had some serious drive ability problems and basically ran like shit! On/off throttle transitions were VERY abrupt. It also had an annoying mid range surge. My buddy says it is also prone to stalling when he stops although it didn't do that with me. I understand that the 1000 V stroms are know to run like shit unless the fuel mapping is corrected with a power commander. I'd have to say that the Uly beats it in: brakes, handling , suspension and the Uly's motor run WAY WAY better in terms of ride ability. I think that even if the Stroms motor was sorted out it still wouldn't be nearly as good in a sporting role as the Uly. The wind protection was much better on the strom and it would probably be a better touring bike. |

I've heard they're a pretty good bike for the $ but I've also heard that the fairing is atrocious for its buffeting and side wind reactions. I like my Uly and I'm keeping it. If I had to lose it somehow I'd probably just go through my old airhead and put it back into circulation. Nothing else new really appeals to me. |

I had a 1000 but sold it for the Uly. I really liked the engine, ergos, reliability. But it was Scary in the wind. My Uly is rock solid in heavy winds, puts a smile on my face! I definitely like the Uly engine better too. This bike has a grin factor of 11! |

I rode a stock VStrom and did not notice drivability problems with the motor. |

There's a couple of bikes that I regret selling, and at the top of the list was my old R100GS (with a PD tank) |

Well I'm sure I'll regret it someday, but this: is on the market now. ~130k on the clock $3.5k But I cannot imagine ever getting a VStrom. A Guzzi mebbe, a Duc perhaps, an R12GS? maybe, hell I've even considered a Ural hack for winter riding, but a VStrom? no way. (Message edited by atoms on November 04, 2008) |
