Anyone else with an 08, (or other year), receive the recall notice for the clutch cable wireform retainer yet? Just got mine in the mail yesterday. |

I know that people have had them replaced under warranty ,(when they broke), but this is an actual recall notice. |

I have a 2006 with the factory part in place. After 17000 miles, it's still hanging on. |

I broke two in the first year on my '06. Sandwiched the third between two 1" rubber washers and stainless fender washers, no problems since. |

I guess I should be clear, I have an 08 with 6500+ on it and have had no troubles, (now it will break on the way home), and I don't anticipate any problems with getting it replaced. I guess it was just interesting to have seen all of the threads around here discussing this issue and now they have actually sent out a recall. And if my memory serves correct the recall was for any XB12X manufactured before 10-07. Like I said, not complaining about mine, just thought it to be interesting. |

Froggy, I sure did, I guess I just got the notice in the mail. I will try to better utilize the search function in the future. Thanks for the heads up. |

Got my clutch cable and bracket changed under (extended) warranty a week ago. The original wireform broke at approx. 13,500 miles. My home made coat hanger replacement lasted well whilst I waited for them to get the new part in. |

I think Court was referring to the original part N0012.1AA wireform, and it (now) lists for $10.00. I think I paid $5 each for my replacements though, but that was over a year ago. |

$2.00 . . .$10.00 . . . whatever. My point is that it's a very easy fix, can be done in a matter of minutes and Buell was quick with the fix. I bear no malice to anyone but confess to being weary of getting "my bike was improperly designed, I could die and am going to sue Buell" type comments that seem to weight down so many of these threads. It's a shame some folks never owned a BSA.

It's a shame some folks never owned a BSA. My first motorcycle was a '68 BSA Lightning. I originally thought that BSA stood for Birmingham Small Arms. After owning one, I discovered that the true meaning was Bastard Stopped Again. Incredibly unreliable. |

It's a shame some folks never owned a BSA. So true...I was riding the 1968 R69S the other day with the then "state of the art double leading shoe cable operated front drum brake"....wow have we come a long way on motorbike technology and engineering that the expectations are so high. Just like some of the great old bikes of years gone by the Buell is a model of simplicity and so easy to work on an replace parts...it's one of the best aspects of a Buell that makes it such a great bike |

I bear no malice to anyone but confess to being weary of getting "my bike was improperly designed, I could die and am going to sue Buell" type comments that seem to weight down so many of these threads. Wow, I certainly don't think that that could have been ascertained from my post(s)?! I love my Uly, I had a 00' HD Softail that had quite a bit of modification, it stranded me 700 miles from home once, and I had to rebuild it twice, I never got excited about it, still loved the bike. I sold that bike to get the Ulysses, haven't missed the HD since. Court I appreciate and respect your knowledge on this board (and in general). I've lurked a long time, anyone can see by my post count that I don't chime in much. I simply missed the official thread about the recall on the XB board and so I started this one, no worries. |

Garin: None of my comments were directed at you nor in response to your post. Trust me, It'd be very clear if they were. The fact is, and this is unrelated again to you, that there are many times that folks, say over a $10 part, turn the event into a firestorm. There are times I'm dying to help someone with a problem and simply walk away. There is one on here now where I think the guy has a real problem and I think I could resolve it in 48 hours but his tone and attitude remind me I have better things to do. (I, as you know from lurking, do this for fun, not a job) Your post was fine and I hope you've either had your's fixed or get it fixed pronto. Mine was done last Saturday. Like I said, it's free and all of about 5 minutes. |

Court, I appreciate that, I think a lot of a conversation is lost when we all sit behind a computer screen and are left to guessing as to what someone else really intended. . . and I was probably being way to sensitive. So lets all get our recalls done, (if necessary), and get out there and ride! |

Got my letter earlier this week. Mine had already been replaced with the updated part under warranty a few months back. Just to be sure that everyone understands... THIS IS NOT A RECALL! Look at your letter closely. This is what is referred to as a "Product Program." The reason I try to clarify this is that there are major differences between a "Recall" and a "Product Program." From our perspective, as Buell owners, the biggest difference to comprehend is that there is a prescribed timeframe for getting this free upgrade. I don't remember the exact language, but it is typically 2 years from the time the letter is issued, or something like that. If this was an actual "Recall" (meaning is was a safety related issues and therefore under the rules of NHTSA), then there is no timelimit to getting the upgrade. Sorry to get into the details of all this but as owners it is important to realize that the upgrade offer will expire on this wireform program. |

Mayerhd - Yep got my recall in todays mail. I had already replaced it in May with the new model bracket after I burned thru my first clutch cable. stinky thing! Thanks for putting out the notice - I somehow missed the one on the windshield - but already replaced that with the Palmer brackets and a ZG+4. |

See if this helps . . . . if anyone has any problem, let me know. It's a very simple solution.
