Well I got the parts to do the conversion on my Uly. Are there any specialty tools I will need? Roughly how long will it take to do the job? Thanks for your help.: )

i just completed the mod on my 08 uly yesterday... i did the same mod to my 06 R, last month....

it took me about 4 hours, because im a perfectionist...

if you have a pre-08 model, you will need a torque wrench that will go at least 240 ft pounds... you will also need a locking bar for the sprocket....

its a great mod...

Thanks for the info. Can you take off the clutch complete as an assy. or do you have to pull it apart?

you can remove it as a unit at the same time that you remove the sprocket and chain... dont get your fingers pinched behind the rotor..
... dont forget the clutch nut is reverse thread...

Does the clutch have to come off? Or can the conversion be done without it?

some say that you can remove the sprocket without removing the clutch... i couldnt do it, as there is not enough flex in the chain...

its a simple matter, to unbolt the clutch and pull it away from the motor at the same time that you pull on the sprocket... an extra pair of hands comes in handy, as the magnets in the rotor are very strong and you will cuss if you catch your fingers in there...

its probably a good time to throw a new chain tensioner shoe on while you have it appart..

I followed the manual and it pretty much guides you through with ease. A large torque wrench with a long handle will help a ton. Don't hit anything with a hammer...especially the part that says "no sharp blows".

I need to rebuild my clutch as am considering the primary change while I'm in there. I am concerned about one thing however;
I've noticed that during extended highway speed runs, parts will loosten up. Kickstand bolts and others, even when torqued and locktited. Will the lower gearing make this worse?
Does anyone have enough miles on this modification to comment on this?
Thanks,
Dan

it doesnt vibrate anymore than stock, so that shouldnt be a problem.. it may vibrate less, because you arent as tempted to lug the motor..

I've run just over 8k mostly highway miles with the XB9 gearing and haven't had a problem with vibration or losing fasteners. But then that was not a problem in the 16k miles prior to the change.
