Posted this in the knowledge vault but seems like it doesn't get much traffic... After mounting new tires yesterday I tightened the front axle down and afterward noticed a gap between the left side fork leg and the wheel. This seems wrong, can someone verify? The other side is flush against the fork leg. I haven't ridden it yet.

Acav80, That looks fine. If you push it over you will bind the fork sliders. Mine looks exactly like that. Ron |

Wow - your Uly sure is clean. Rub some dirt on it. Anyway - I had same question after spooning on a new set of tires - the resounding response was "its normal". I just didn't notice gap until AFTER I did tire change. Have ridden about 5oo mi since, no problems. Our Uly brothers & sisters are the source of all relevant knowledge. j |

Yep, looks about perfect...before you tighten the two pinch bolts the fork should float on the axle...check by push/pulling by hand, then bounce forks up and down hard (hold front brake lever)...then hold bike straight upright ...now tighten..this centers the forks to prevent binding/stiction of fork seals. |

Yeah it was clean because about two days before that shot I had spent 3 hours going over it with cleaner and a rag. Every nook and cranny...boy that was fun. Before that it looked like something dug up out of a landfill. It's dirty again now after Buelltoberfest. |

Acav80- Yes, that's normal. The axle has a shoulder on it that rides against the bearing and holds the wheel away from the fork on that side. The bearing race is against the fork on the other side of the wheel. |
