My Uly recently went into the shop after the fan fuse started popping recently. Background info: At 12,000 miles, the rear rocker seal went, and VERY soon after, the fan quit. When the fan would try to come on, it would blow the fuse. Fixing the leak and replacing the fan solved the problem, until recently. At 21,000 miles, it started blowing the fuse again. When you turn off the bike, and NO fan starts up, you KNOW something's up ! This in turn causes the 'check engine' light to come on after the bike is re-started. So I got the call that the bike is "sort of fixed". The rear rocker leak (different area this time) was just starting, and took the fan out again. Both were fixed again, but they were still getting the 'check engine' light on, but traced to the O2 sensor being bad. I was told I could pick the bike up, and ride it until the sensor came in. Talking to the mechanic today, he feels that as good as the bike is running, I should ride it as is, and not bother replacing the sensor. He said he could fix it so it wouldn't trip the 'check engine' light. I'm not very in tune with the ins and outs of tuning with the equipment available today, so I'm not sure how important the O2 sensor is. Comments ? |

Picked the bike up today before work. Mechanic said he made some changes in the ECM to richen it a little; he wanted some feedback as to how it runs. Runs good, feels a little smoother, maybe a bit more power. But check engine light (presumably the O2 sensor) came on before I got to work. He didn't sound too happy when I called to let him know. Guess I'll wait until that comes in. |

Florida lime, I would pull the code and see if it is the o2 sensor which is a 13 code. Here is a procedure that I used on my 06. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/224753.html There might be another code. This method will pick out codes that older versions of VDSTS missed |

Thanks Dave -- I'll try that when I get home in the AM, before the hurricane gets close ! |

Dave, Code verifies it as 13 -- O2 sensor. Thanks. |

Florida, when I replaced my fan I had to be really really careful working it past the wire on top of a spark-plug-looking sensor behind the rear cyclinder. If that's the O2 sensor it's possible its wire was damaged during the fan swap. The sensor is somewhat hidden by the frame as you're rotating and sliding the fan out (or in) and there is very little clearance. I thought I was going to crimp and shear the wire right off the sensor. Anyone doing this needs to go slow and careful. |

Bob, That was my suspicion as to why the O2 sensor may have "gone bad" at this time. Thanks. |
