Round at a fellow Buellers house today we tried to shift the rear axle to fit a FS belt tensioner. No dice, could not free it. Put plenty of torque on it but not enough to snap the spindle (as some have done I believe) and yes we did remove the pinch bolt. Our theory is that when the dealer put new tyres on they used a pneumatic wrench and possible did'nt grease the spindle before re fitting. Any tips on how to free it up without busting anything? |

A piece of pipe on the end of the wrench. |

They probably didn't put any anti-sieze on it. You can try some penetrating oil, but I'd be careful with that stuff around your bearings. ...otherwise, more brute force. >.< |

Penetrating oil in the gap at the pinch bolt location. Try to tighten a little. Use a BFW (cheater bar) and break it loose. If it is over tightened and not just frozen due to lack of anti-sieze, may want to consider a set of bearings. Over tightened axles lead to excessive crush on the spacer, increasing preload on the bearings. |

Thanks Treadmarks and Darthane, for taking the trouble to be helpful. |

As a last resort- you may have to put some heat to the swingarm. Try a very good heat gun first- the aluminum doesn't need much to expand a great deal. Be patient with it. Worst case scenario a small torch. Hopefully it won't come to this. Good luck.

And when you get it free, plenty of anti seize lube going back on,since road grime, and salts will corrode the two parts together again. |
