...a plain bar that will fit where the beaver tail goes. Give us an estimate of costs maybe? I hate that thing. Mrs thinks it's ghey too. I don't have the wherewithal to make something to replace it, but a plain cylinder that fits in the space would be sweet. |

if you are not using the tail portion of it, why not just unbolt the entire assembly ? |

dave, could you draw up a mock sketch and maybe throw what ever kind of diminsions you are wanting in there too?, im a welder and metal worker for the us army and am currently deployed to iraq but if not me i can think of a few ppl in the states that are more than capable of fabbing what you want , the main questions i would ask though are what kind of materiel , how big , what shape , are you ever gonna use a tail pack , if so i would incorporate bungie loops into the rail , would you plan on removing said rail at any time , if so i could think of several ways to mount it to the rear subframe, i would price that piece <if> at about $100 to $150 , depending on the materiel , you could use regular metal connduit anywhere from 3/4 of an inch up to 1 3/4 and if your ol' lady has large hands you could even go with 2 - 2 1/2 inch pipe! or you could use solid alumnium stock , which is kinda hard to bend into the shape that i have in my mind for your rear 'bar' but im sure it could be done, how ever let me know what you have in mind , the more detailed you can make your discription the easier it will be for me or whoever you get to make this part for you to be able to put you idea into the materiels and on your bike , details man details let us know and im sure the rest of the community would be more than able to help any way possiable, latter, ulyman. |

If it were mine I wanted to get rid of, I'd remove it and start cutting into it. I'd start with seeing how easy it is to get the plastic overlay off of the flat section. Then I'd slice it off at the lower pivot section a little proud of material and start grinding from there. If it's a solid piece there maybe you can get away with some paint detailing. If not I would oversleeve it with something. My Mrs. thinks the Triple Tail backrest is absolutely essential to riding pillion... she's gonna hate my R100S reborn... |

If I were to lose the tail, I'd probably go this route. http://www.touratech-usa.com/shop/show.lasso?sku=380-0020&-session=touratech:4C6D0EE511c040CFF9ipY3F37889 A little pricey though.

I don't know if it was available commercially, but when I bought my used 06 Uly, it had what appeared to be a very nice replacement bar, like you are asking about. Right now, it's packed away, but if you want details, PM or email me direct and I'll measure it up, take some pics, etc. |

I've had it naked for most of it's life slicker. The mrs would like a handle for the 10/10ths stuff so she doesn't slide forward into me on the picks. A simple bar would do it. I'll sketch it up Ulyman. |

>>Right now, it's packed away, but if you want details,<< If you could find a brand that would be great. Post it up - several might be interested. Don't go to any trouble - not urgent. |

I got the piece out of storage, and measured it. It is 8" long (sorry about non-metric measurements, dave...) and 1 3/4 inches in diameter. It has two tabs on one end to fit the teeth on the right handle at the rear of the seat. It appears to be just some aluminum stock painted black. I presume you could paint it whatever color you wanted. There are also three holes in it; these holes should be on the bottom to facilitate drainage, is my guess. I have a couple pics, but I can't figure out how to shrink them to the right size using Vista's media program. If anyone wants pics, I will email them. |
