My boyfriend's '08 Ulysses is getting terrible gas mileage - The MPG was in the high 30s before the 1000 mile service, and now with 2000 miles under its belt it's getting about 30 MPG. Can anyone with '08 Ulys post your avg MPG or give your thoughts on this matter? Sidenote - He does have fun with this bike, but he's not constantly hammering on the throttle. I just bought a Blast, which does not have as much power as the Uly so he's been taking it slow and cruising with me, you'd think he'd at least see a MPG improvement in this case! |

There's an ECM update that one owner had done to his 08 and his mileage improved. Sorry I can't remember the thread but will try to find it. Check with your dealer, good chance they haven't heard about it, but doesn't hurt to ask. |

My 08 has steadily improved with mileage. At 5400 miles my last tank got 42+. |

My '07 gets around 36 MPG like clockwork - it depends, to a great extent, on how you ride it, as well as the bike itself. I hate to break this to you, but perhaps your B/F is a Uly hooligan. Two telling signs are the low MPG and a continual grin prior to, while, or after riding, or if you find him thinking about riding. Sounds like it may be time for an intervention. Good Luck! John |

30 MPG seems low, even for an '08. The average for the '08 Uly (according to the Uly Data Page) is almost 41 mpg. Other than the obvious...like riding style (which seems to be normal in this case), what factors or problems can cause a 20% decrease in fuel economy? |

I ride mine like I stole it, fill the gas to just below the filler neck ring, I get the reserve light around 115 to 120 miles. Granted I do idle during warmup for about 2 minutes prior to riding and I ride hard... |

Haha - He could very well be a Uly Hooligan and trying to hide it from me! Afterall - tire wear doesn't lie and it's showing he has leaned the bike significantly. As for being all grins - that's just a common side effect for anyone riding a Buell! |

Worst mileages ever were 24.74, 24.97, 26.10. Average is still 32.14, which includes a few boring trips at 40mpg+ BUT Now that I have over 7,500 miles on it, and full synth in it, I'm getting WAY better mileage - I must update 08Uly's page... I am now getting somewhere at 38'ish mpg. And that is without any ECM work (like the new Buell ECM map released, or ECMSpy fiddling). With that I "should" get low 40's... And I ride hard. If taking it easy, using gut feel logic, I should get 50mpg (which will never happen as that's not the point of something that handles and goes so well as this!). |

Mine was in the mid 30's when i fist got it. Now that it has 3000 miles on it, it regularly gets over 40. I also noticed the rear wheel and brake is coated in carbon. My 83000 mile X1 still gets over 50 though. I guess the 2008 just run rich. |

IMHO: Go to the Buell Dealer and get your ECM reflashed with the new map. Early reports have it mid-high 40's and low 50's .... just like the old 06-07 regularly do. Chas |

i ride quite hard with a least 1 wheelie per trip and pass everything in sight (i hate being buffited by dirty air) , before reflash around 40 after exhaust valve repair and beta-patch reflash last tank was 48.5 mpg , it has 2598 kms now |

Well....my recent jaunt into the 50s must have been a fluke. Last fill up back down to the low-mid 40s. Got the 48-50mpgs fully bagged and 2up and have been running the Uly naked recently so go figure. Maybe I'll rethink the ECM reflash.........but she has been running oh so good......... |

My observation with my 06-07 is the most-mpg mode is highway-byway but consistent speed for 30+ miles at a bite. Communiting through the city = 42-44 mpg but going on a long trip = 50-54 mpg. I am sure the 08's with beta-patch will do the same or better. Chas |

Got the 48-50mpgs fully bagged and 2up and have been running the Uly naked recently so go figure. As strange as it seems, I get better mileage 2 up. It has to have something to do with the aerodynamics. I don't know if the bags help or hurt mileage. |

Thanks for all the feedback! He just got 38 MPGs on his most recent tank, but that was with him being very conservative. We have a call in with one of the local dealers, so we will wait to hear from them too. Jlnance - He was getting better MPGS when we were riding 2 up as well, which is sorta weird. |

On an 08' Uly - Just did a 4000 mi trip to Yellowknife...and back fortunately. (Watch for bears streaking across the road up there !!!) Went 170 mi a couple of times before the fuel lite even came on. (some places it's a 180 mi between gas stations - carried 2, 33oz MSR bottles) After doing all the litre/kilometer conversions - never got less than 40 and as high 45 mpg. We were running 65 - 75 mph most the time. |

Did I miss a post on a new ECM flash for 08s? My bike is going into service tonight for some warranty work. Is there a service note or number that I should mention? |

You guys with 08's are making me feel good about buying my 06! last tankful was typical; light went on at 195 miles, filled up at 200 with 93 exxon and it took 3.75 gallons-53 mpg. Love it! doc |

MPG is part of why I got another Buell; I commute on the bike every day. My last Buell was a 98S1WL that got 62mpg. And that wasn't babying it, though I'm not as nuts as some guys I've ridden with. |

On the 08 he should be in the low 40mpg at least, even if he is really heavy on the throttle. 46-48 is pretty common for me. |
