After dumping my tax refund AND stimulus money into the cash register at one of the local HD dealers today, I drove off with a New Old Stock (06) orange Ulysses. The only bummer is that because I paid cash I couldn't qualify for the free bags with the financing offer - oh well. Anyways, bugging my wife for the last ten years about getting a motorcycle finally paid off and she relented - I'm sure the gas prices helped a bit too. She did rationalize that the price the bike cost me would put an awful lot of gas in our minivan!?! I did prevail and get the Uly however, now I just have to learn how to ride the damn thing and get a foot down off that skyscraper of a motorcycle! First thing I noticed at the first red light was the front brake works REALLY REALLY well! Second thing I noticed was I suck at take offs; it's been 5 years since my MSF course and I'm leaning towards taking it again. I did spring for the Icon vest (in the hi-vis you can't miss me lime green) and I get long stares by everyone I ride by but can't be sure if it's the bike they're looking at, or the vest, or just wondering why I'm going so damn slow while trying the gentle break in the thing. Anyhow, I rode 80 miles so far, dialed in the suspension, and added a bit of oil after I was done. I really enjoy this bike and am glad for the purchase. I had contacted a Suzuki dealer a few months ago and had him hunt me down a wee strom with ABS. When I sat down to sign those papers I balked - partly because of the uncertainty of being laid off (I'm an autoworker) and partly because I had started researching the Uly and realized something. I could have gotten the wee strom and dumped a bunch of money in it to get it the way I ultimately wanted, or I could just get the Uly and get Happy Trail side bags for it and perhaps a GPS and that's about it. I really couldn't see where it needed any other items, it was already a GREAT bike and it's American made too! |

I think what he said was he paid cash in order to get the free bags. Above posts are correct - either 5.99% *or* free bags. If, for some reason, he got neither...yes, a return trip is in order - GO GET THOSE BAGS. Congrats on the new bike. I love my '06...but I'm skyscraper tall too, so we're a pretty good match LOL. |

Gwis2, Tell the shyster salesman to take your free bags off his Buell and put them on your bike. Court might have to help out here. Out here in Nebraska that would be considered grand larceny and worth hard time as cell mate to Bruce the bugger-er. (Message edited by electraglider_1997 on May 13, 2008) |

Thanks for all the warm welcomes and congrats guys, It's much appreciated! Ok, here's what happened in a nutshell. I went to the HD dealer just to browse around and spy an orange 06 Uly. The salesman blurts out an out the door price and it's more attractive then current year models price so I bite and give a down payment. I put money down each week and between my extra overtime money and my tax return, inside of a few weeks I have given him the bulk of it in cash. I read here on Badweb about the free bags offered so I surf over to the Buell site and check it out. Excitedly, I call the salesman and try to explain what the promotion is and he seems oblivious to it and asks me to bring a print out of the page for verification. I go there the next day with the print of the promo sheet from the Buell web site but it was just before closing time at the dealer (i have to go after work and they close at 6pm) and I drop it off and leave for home. The next day I hound my wife about the bags and to stay near the phone because the salesman might call with the confirmation of the good news. I finally had her call the dealer and the salesman said that the offer was only for bikes that are financed but he has a call into Buell to check. I get home from work and get the Customer Service number off the Buell webpage and my wife calls the next day. She spoke to a Rep named "Ola" at Buell headquarters and explains that we are paying cash for a new, untitled 06 Ulysses model and the dealer says that it's a financing offer and because we are paying cash that we DO NOT qualify. The customer service rep plays phone tag with my wife a few days but when they finally spoke she sadly confirmed that the deal was for financing ONLY and since we are cash customers, we do not qualify. My Stimulus money comes in a week after this conversation and just yesterday I paid cash in full and retrieved my Ulysses. So now I have it in my hot little hands minus the bags! I was under the impression that it was just me that was reading the promo offer wrong, glad to see that you guys read it the same way i do - finance at the special rate OR get free bags. I'm at a loss what my options are, if any. And any and all help would be most appreciated! |

Gwiz2, You are absolutely gonna' love that bike. Especially with the full set of luggage that Buell owes you. The Buell website is very clear on terms of the offer and you my friend, have over $1100 worth of luggage coming to you. I would agree with the previous suggestion of you sending Court a PM to see if he can get someone at Buell to look into this. Either the CS rep at Buell doesn't know what they're talking about - or you have a bike they may have already been previously titled. (Unlikely, but I'm trying to give the Buell rep the benefit of the doubt and I can't think of any other circumstance that would void the terms of the offer.) In in the mean time, enjoy the new ride! |

From Buell.com... No down payment financing offer is valid on motorcycles financed through Eaglemark Savings Bank (ESB), a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson Credit Corp., and is subject to credit approval by ESB. Offer valid on new, previously untitled 2006, 2007 and 2008 Buell® XB motorcycles. The fixed Annual Percentage Rate (APR) will be 5.99%. The term of the loan will vary from 12-48 months. Maximum term for 2006 and 2007 motorcycles is 36 months. Maximum term for 2008 motorcycles is 48 months. For example, a 2008 Buell® Ulysses® XB12X with a purchase price of $11,495 ($11,595 in California), no down payment, a 36-month repayment term, and a 5.99% APR results in monthly payments of $349.65 ($352.69 in California). A 2007 Buell® Ulysses® XB12X with a purchase price of $11,495 ($11,595 in California), no down payment, a 48-month repayment term, and a 5.99% APR results in monthly payments of $269.91 ($272.26 in California). Your actual terms may vary. Tax, title, documentation, set-up, freight and other charges are not included. Other charges may apply. Offer available through authorized U.S. Buell® dealerships only. Subject to model availability. Dealer participation may vary. Not all applicants will qualify. Well-qualified applicants only. Not valid in conjunction with other offers. Other terms, conditions, and limitations may apply. Financing offer is subject to change or cancellation at anytime. Ulysses Top & Side Cases offer valid on new 2006 and 2007 models only. See dealer for details. I don't see anywhere in their statement that the bags are only offered on financed bikes. I wonder how other dealers are interpreting this offer. |

Quote from website: "No money down (offer ends May 31) Plus 5.99% Apr Financing on New XB models OR Free Top & Side Cases (A $1124.95 value!) On new 2006 & 2007 Ulysses Models" You get either cheep financing OR you get free cases. There can be no other interpretation. You didn't get financing therefore you have free cases owed to you. Accept nothing less!!! |

Congrats. Now that all of the important stuff is taken care of, and you have your bags... Go take the MSF course again, and then ride the hell out of that bike. It does help to have a mental refresher after a break. Two fingers is all you ever need to use. The brakes are frikin awesome on these bikes. You will get used to starting off, just be careful, the front end likes to come up on these bikes. -Chris |

Gwiss ---- Go here, there is the transcript of the letter to dealers in the thread. Its as clear as clear. They owe you bags.... but why would you want them.... they are just going to make your bike look pug-ugly, oh I get it... to sell on Ebay. Which is exactly why you don't have to finance in order to get the free bags. To receive payment for the bags, the dealership sends in a form with the SWR (sales and warranty registration) showing the promo code, the VIN number, and the part number (side case kit, or top and side case kit). That's it. Trust me, did it on my own bike, filled out the form, stuff the bags daily when getting ready for work |

I think I'm going to give up on this quest to get these bags. My wife called again today and was told the same thing that she was told the last time. And after reading the link that Dick_stilton gave a few posts up, I see that it says nothing pertaining to my situation about paying cash for the bike and getting the bags - only talks about the financing aspect. Maybe it's not such a bad thing, I liked the Happy Trail bags better... Thanks for all the encouraging advice! |

What are you talking about? Everything I've read shows you either get the 5.99% financing OR you get free set of bags on a 2006 or 2007. Man, you demand your free set of bags. Call Buell Support, call the newspaper, call someone. |

I know it sounds like a hassle for you to get them, but that's $1000 you're throwing away if you don't spend some time to get it. |

Did the bike come from Ray C's or Cummings Buell? Someone in Buell customer service should be able to help you with this. Have your wife call them (Buell Customer Service 1-414-343-8400 John, Renee, et al.) The dealer is getting almost $800 in credit for you buying the bike. You should get the bags if you purchased the bike during the time frame noted in the promotion info. |

Prowler - my bike came from fine folks at Cummings. The sales manager there named Ron seems to be a good enough guy and was very helpful and pleasant with the purchase. The number you so kindly supplied is the very one my wife has been calling where she spoke with a woman named Ola and another woman who was the Supervisor of Customer Service named Cindy. I was taken back when you typed out the two dealers that are near me...but then realized that your also in Michigan apparently around the same area as I. Perhaps a ride is in order? Let me know... Markwoodlief - I'd be interested to know how you pulled off getting the bags when you paid cash for the bike! That's exactly what I was trying to do but seemed to be stonewalled at every turn because I didn't finance the damn thing! And to answer your question about selling them; hell, I don't even OWN them! But thanks for the suggestion, I would be glad to help out another Uly owner...seems like owning a Uly is like a brotherhood or a secret handshake or something! I've seem so few of them, even I feel like I'm trying to seek out my own kind (other Uly owners) after my purchase... |

Tipsymcstagger - The link you gave is the one in the same that I saw. In fact, I printed it out and brought it to the dealer as to make them aware of the offer. They seemed to know nothing about it before I questioned about it and pointed it out with the copied page. They then called Buell apparently and that's where they (dealer and Buell customer service) got on the same page and both told me it's a no go with the bags because of the purchase being payed in full in cash. They both said that the offer is only for financing... |
