I have an 08 Uly with 2200mi on it since Aug. It has the poor throttle response right of idle. If you are not careful it will stall when taking off. You need to use more clutch and throttle then our other Buells. Hell my X1 has better response and my wifes 04 12S is better than the X1.

Ok so I made a cable for ECM Spy and hooked up the 08. Yes the ECM Spy 2 works great, even with vista. Now this is the first thing I noticed. AFV was 84 so I reset it to 100 and also did the 08 TPS rest procedure. Took it for a test ride and road it in learn mode. Hooked up again and AFV is right back at 84.

Now if I understand correctly (and please correct me) The ECM is sensing the bike is running rich and is trying to pull fuel hence the AFV back at 84. I checked the AFV on my X1 and it is at 104. The 12S is at 102.

The Uly ran noticably better when I reset the AFV to 100 until I got back from the ride when it went into learn mode. Now the bike is acting the same poor responce. Like it is lean off idle. So far this is what I have found with my limited time with ECM Spy. Any suggestion would be great.

This seems like the epicenter of ECMSpy discussion.

84 is a bit low, as it will cut away 16% from WOT/OL fuel also. This will raise AFR from 14.7 to above 17, which is too lean in WOT and gives bad performance in the low load region, exactly as you described.

You didn't tell about your bikes configuration. Are you using some 3rd party muffler or any airbox mod?

It seems to me, that this is a typical problem for the 2008 model Ulys. The question is, whether a electric/mechanical fault causes this low AFV (cable problems, false air, ...) or if the map is not precisely adapted to the conditions in learning mode.

Assumably the ECM expects a better VE in learnig mode than is the case. This might be a mapping error or due to changes at the bike's configuration.

Regarding 2008 models I know about two different ecm types, one identified as OD0BC, the other as OD0B9. Unfortunately, these names aren't stored in the eeprom.

I have no idea if these two versions are country specific or just different releases with different maps.

Gunter

Gunter

The bike is completely stock. This is an early production 08. Production date Aug 07, and when I fetched the maps it looked like it was dated 06/04/07. And I HAVE NOT did anything mapping. I have been using ECM Spy just for diag.

So far it looks like the head temp sensor is reading correctly, the TPS is accorrect and the air temp sensor is also fine. AFV is directly tied to the O2 sensor. Right?
Slow or bad O2 readings?

I am going to check the bike for intake leaks. (but that should of sent the AFV the other way)

One more thing there are no error codes.

If you have access to another 08 map you might want to compare the two to see if there are any difference in the front and back VE tables.

Alan, would you please send me an eeprom copy (in both text and .epr format)? Email is support (at) ecmspy.com

There was someone else with brand new 2008, just a couple miles on it, and the check engine light came on. They said it was a bad O2 sensor. I wonder if the 2008s have a bad batch of O2 sensors?

I wonder if that would also cause some people to get really low MPG compared to the 2006/2007 models?

My '08 had the check engine light issue at about 500 mi. The factory had my dealer replace a wiring harness. Light doesn't come on any more. I think someone else here had the same issue and the same fix.

My mileage sucks. 3800 miles now and I average about 35 mpg. I plan on bitching about it when it goes in for its 5000 mi. service.
