Wondering if I flip the tail over the back - could I drill 2 holes in a Pelican 1450 and mount the box to the 2 holes in the triple tail with bolts, large washers etc? Jeff |

I mounted a 1400 on the other side of mine. |

With the tail on the seat? Extending over the back - do you think the triple tail mechanism can hold 5lbs for case and 10 or 15 in stuff? |

Isn't the weight limit on the Beaver tail listed at something like 7 lbs? Seems low but then there is the wind loading and inertia issues that can magnify things. |

Here's a 1450 ... perfect size for the Uly IMHO. I drilled 2 additional holes in the triple tail 2 mount it. With regard to load capacity, just make sure you don't fill it with lead.

JohnBoy, Can you tell me how you bolted the box to the tail? Fender washers and 10mm headed metric threaded bolts from Lowe's... I used the self-locking nuts as well- they have a plastic insert ring inside. The triple tail drills out very cleanly ... just make sure you use the section of tail that has metal inside. John |

Thanks - is that the smooth area that has the metal inside? |

Thanks - is that the smooth area that has the metal inside. When you bend the end of your flipper tail up and down, the pivot point (or there 'bouts) is where the metal ends - you need to be an inch or two back (i.e., going toward the front of vehicle) from that point. You need to drill into the metal within the tail so it doesn't flop around on you once its mounted. The holes drilled out cleanly and look like stock holes ... no worries! . |

How about we is this grid. Can you tell me where I should drill? A1 and F1 for example? Can I use the existing holes?

I'm a Pelican , I guess....Pelican W*H*O*R*E! There! Here's the underside of the Triple Tail with a Pelican 1300 mounted on it. I removed the 1450 to try out a 1300 and only used the big holes 'cause I was too lazy to drill the box again. Notice the holes I drilled for the 1450! Here's the Pelican 1300 mounted as above ... I added the 3M reflective strips placed vertically. The 1300 only holds my tool kit. The 1450 holds a lot more, rain jacket, gloves, goggles, etc. (Message edited by johnboy777 on April 19, 2008) |

Here is a pic of Treadmarks ULY from ADVrider with a 1400 mounted on a triple tail. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12 0486&page=86 I like the 1400 in size, and plan to get one and put on my bike. I also like that it's mounted on the backside so you can still flip it up for a passenger without removing the pelican (Message edited by msparks on April 20, 2008) |

If you go much higher than the 1400 the way I mounted it, it makes for one heck of a swing to get your leg over. (Message edited by treadmarks on April 21, 2008) |

+1 on TM's comment, at least for me with the stubby legs...I strapped a 1450 over the Triple Tail in the forward position. It is a bit too wide and I had to apply some duct tape to the grab rails for scuff protection. On the plus side, the case, combined with the spare gloves stuffed in my jacket back pocket makes for a nice seatrest. BTW anyone consider making a simple sheet metal slot that gets bolted to the underside of the Pelican case?...at least in the forward orientation, it might work as an easy-on-easy-off solution.... I liked the reflective tape on the case too, made sense for a simple way to add some visibility..

Is it just the photos? The 1300 looks much bigger than the 1400! |

I switched my order this morning to a 1400 - I think that will better suit me. $65.89 shipped. Can I use 2 bolts on a 1400 or should I use 4? Jeff |

Can I use 2 bolts on a 1400 or should I use 4? You can use only two, as long as they are metric. . |

I used 4 bolts, and they weren't metric. Welcome to the dark side, Dick. |

Here is an idea..... lets re-name this thread 'How to make a good looking bike ugly'. What bike are you riding - my Uly is already ugly as sin. Having a locking waterproof top case for under $70 is a perfect addition to a Uly IMHO, if you're riding it, that is, rather than posing with it. Besides, if brother Treadmark's got it, it's gotta be cool! . |

Hmmmm.... I have a Uly and after Power and Comfort 'Looks' came in a strong 3rd in my decision to buy it. I did buy it to ride, not to pose, and ride hard but I would never put any kind of hard case on it. Its not an RS or any other kind of two wheeled tractor so why mess with the looks is my reasoning. Having said all that I guess its each to their own and thats why I never take the P*** out of the mobile Harley fashion models that parade up and down the streets on sunny days. Do your thing guys, there was no disrespect intended. |

Treadmarks wrote: "If you go much higher than the 1400 the way I mounted it, it makes for one heck of a swing to get your leg over." I use the karate kick technique to get my leg on top of the seat then slide on. (actually it is more of a dancing kick but karate is more manly and sounds better) I have a moto-pak rear bag on the seat and a small ice chest bungied to the tail. The ice chest is perfectly happy with only one bungie so I would think that 2 bolts are plenty for your pelicans. |

with the triple tail down mounted version can u put the tail upright for a passenger or do you have to take the case off all the time? |

It gets flipped up, every Friday night, just like it is. It hauls my lunch during the week, and her purse on the weekend. |

Hey I am a little gun shy on drilling. What is the best technique to drill the holes? Can I line it up, secure it with tape and drill right through the case and the tail? |

If you drill case to tail, take the seat off first. I drilled tail to case with the tail up. Make sure you drill in rigid area near the center of the tail. |

Ordered my Pelican 1400 today. Should be here sometime this week or next. Can't wait to get it mounted. What type of locks are you all using? |
