Scully, I would be interested in this for my 06 Uly. I have a Throttlemeister on my GPZ 1100 and it saves my wrist on long rides. Let us know when it is available or if you need someone to test it. | ||

I use a vista cruise. Sells for about 20 bucks pretty much anywhere. I had to slightly modify my throttle tube by grinding off a little ridge on the tube itself. Also drilled through the vista cruise into the switch housing, and used a machine screw to keep the unit from twisting with the throttle. Somebody here has that setup, and I just copied it. By the way, don't think it matters, but my Uly is an 06. Works great, and is inexpensive. Oh one more thing, there are several different models of the vista, but for the life of me, I can't remember which one I used. I'm sure if your interested, I could probably dig up which one. | ||

I used an NEP throttle lock for several months, and it worked fine, but I wanted something a little cleaner looking. So I installed the Kaoko throttle control. They work great, but are very expensive. The one's above that Skully is working on look like a great option. Two questions Skully...How much?...and compatibility with hand guards is key for most Uly owners. (ok, one question and one statement) The Kaoko simply has the hand guard outside of the bar end, and a bolt with large washer that hold it in place.  | ||

Friend of mine installed a Throttler on his Road King, works great. Come in black also, high quality but NOT cheap. http://www.50sboy.com/throttler.html I'd also be interested in a throttle lock for the bar end as long as the hand guards stay. | ||

You guys are making it difficult to say no! However, liability is an issue that makes us very wary of selling this product. Can anyone tell me if the Uly and the CityX hand guards are the same? Xbimmer - That is interesting. Both of the Harleys that I owned had throttle locks from the factory. Has Harley eliminated them? Mark - The version that you see in my bad photograph above is made entirely from Delrin. The main body could be made from steel to increase weight. We want to support Uly owners. I would need a consensus as to what you guys want as we can't carry several different designs. The cost of maintaining a large inventory is too expensive for us and my machinist is not happy with small quantities. Keith | ||

Skully: I have a slightly used set of hand guards that I could send you, but it would not include the hardware. As you can see in my post above, Kaoko just has the guards stretch over the bar ends and in held in place by the bolt. Some people also use ProTaper Aluminum bars which have a 1/2" hole as opposed to the 3/4" ID of the stock bars. A solution flexible enough to accommodate these upgraded bars would be great too. I installed some ProTaper bars over the holidays, but I just bored out the ends of the bars to allow my current throttle lock to still work (this was a little bit scary). Lastly, let me be the first to volunteer to be a beta tester for your new Throttle control bar ends...I think what you have come up with so far look great. I too use the "Vista Cruise" it takes just a small bit of modification but as stated above it costs about $20. | ||

I can vouch for the Kaoko as well. It works great. I could have sworn I paid a LOT less than $150.00 for it (with free installation!) at the BMWMOA National rally last summer. It is a massively great and hugely safer improvement over my previous throttle lock (an O washer - don't do it). | ||

It's an older Road King and he did buy it new, who knows? The liability point you make is interesting. My old BMW came with a drilled and threaded switch/throttle housing for the factory throttle screw, but they wouldn't sell the bike with it installed or install it either. Were happy to sell me one though. | ||

A small bit of modification may be an understatement. If I had had a dremel it would have been much easier but it probably took about two hours of messing around with an exacto knife to get it right. If you want a throttle lock that will work well and is easy to install go with one of the more expensive ones. | ||

Jeremy, The DarkHorse version took two minutes to install (one for finding the Allen wrench!). This assumes that you have grips that accommodate bar ends. If not, you will have to cut a hole in the end. Keith | ||

Ued it today on my 50 mile slab ride to Lakeland for their monthly BRAG ride. Worked like a champ. Best $20 you'll ever spend especially if you suffer from lateral epichondilitus (tennis elbow). I used both the Vista cruise and the kaoko, both have their advantages/disadvantages. The Vista cruise was very easy to activate when riding, but had a very narrow range of adjustment so it was either binding the throttle during normal use or slipping when locked. Throw some dirt/dust or moisture into the mix and it just further complicates the issue. The kaoko is a little more difficult to actuate but locks the throttle so no issue with extended cruising. Of course it costs 5X's as much, but works better in practice. | ||

Skully; I am very interested in the Throttle lock you have pictured above. I had a Throttlemeister on both my S3-T and my M2. I've thought about how I could adapt one for use on my Uly, and I believe I've figured out a way to do it. However, your set up looks much easier to operate, and looks better, also. I'd be willing to sign a Liability Release, if that will help. I'll want a throttle lock by next Summer; I'm going to ride up to the Arctic Circle in Alaska. Ideally, I'd like to have one on my bike before Homecoming this Summer. How much will one cost? | ||

Crusty - Thanks for your interest. That sounds like one heck of a trip! I put a few more miles on my XB yesterday and got to use the throttle lock. It worked perfectly though I know of one improvement that I can make. I can't price the lock yet but it will have to be less expensive than the Kaoko. Give me a little more time to work out a few details with my machinist and we can arrive at a price. Thanks again, Keith |
