Will the XB12s muffler fit an XB12X, and vise-versa. If it does fit, is it an exact fit. Thanks PS... I am not sending it to Kevin or Special Ops. PSS... (Disclaimer) Although this may sound like a similar post which I posted, it is not - although it is on a similar topic, it is in no way the same. Honestly! The mufflers are interchangeable both ways. Although the kick stand on the Uly will contact the leading edge of the XBS outlet. Also the Uly stand ends right in the middle of the XBS outlet, and will get "blackened" from the exhaust. |

Thanks again, Tom. Your prior post on your muffler inspired me to attempt a custom muffler with an 18" insert from Sweet-Thunder. http://www.sweet-thunder.com/chambered_general_mai n.html#aluminum . |

And how did the attempt go? |

I bought the XB12s muffler for $100 shipped (UPS from AZ - it'll take forever) and then called Mike today @ Sweet- Thunder, to get some idea of what to use. Next up is get the muffler, measure it and order the Sweet-Thunder insert sized to fit. Basically, my idea to to set it up similar to the open valved operation of the stock muffler, but with a bigger Sweet-Thunder insert tube (2.5")-- with expansion chambers in front and in back, as is the OEM muffler. Then I need to find a fabricator - an easy proposition in my area, and have at it. I have no business doing this - that's what makes this so much fun John H. |

Teeps, By chance, do you have pics of your Cherry Bomb insert in your muffler. John H. |

Unfortunately no, I did not photo document the project. Your idea of retaining the expansion chambers is similar to mine. In my example the exhaust dumps into the front 3/4ths of the muffler, then exits through the "Bomb" to the rear 1/4 chamber, then exits the stinger. As you can see I'm no artist but you get the idea... from my crude drawing.

That is exactly what I had in mind. My options are 2" or 2.25" or 2.5" ID inserts and one or two rear outlets. I plan to maintain the exact (or as close as possible) same expansion chambers (as the OE Muffler) front and rear. I noticed that your front expansion chanmber is larger than stock. Did you like the sound? How does it compare to stock? John H. (Message edited by johnboy777 on December 27, 2007) |

Johnboy777 Posted on Thursday, December 27, 2007 - Did you like the sound? How does it compare to stock? Sounds like a Harley V-Twin motorcycle should... but not so loud as to be obnoxious.

The more I think about this design, perhaps I should go with the single outlet (as the OE unit) and a 2" Sweet-Thunder insert/core. That way I will maintain better mid-range. I'm not a street racer. |
