I would like to start a thread to track info on installing the new '08 triple trees on older Uly's. Has anyone researched this subject? Any info out there on part numbers, costs, if its even do-able and if so, what does it take to accomplish? Thanks Jim |

Forks : J0121.3AK ($318) & J0122.3AK ($318) Triples : J0105.3AKYBD ($148)& J0106.3AKYBD ($148) Lower Center Fender: M1125.3AKMBP ($70) After riding a 2008 it was enough for me to order the parts. All prices are retail. |

Great, thank you! There has been some mention on the possibility of using the earlier forks with the new trees. I don't know if you have received the parts yet, but when you do you would be in a perfect position to verify if that were possible or not. It may be worth a try as one could always purchase the forks later if the handling was not up to par. |

I'll pass... Shortening the trail up by that much would be a bad thing. |

So what changed that required a new center fender? The larger diameter forks? |

Wow 47mm forks? cool!! do the 08 forks have Damping rods like the older ones? or do they have a piston/washer stack like the GSXR forks? |

Axle, and thus the wheel, are moved back with respect to the forks. |

Soloyosh is right. Installing ONLY the new triple trees (which WILL fit the 06/07's) on your earlier Uly's fork tubes, will result in a 5/8" longer wheelbase, which will cut into the trail, thus quickening even more the steering response. The Uly does not need quicker steering in my opinion. That could be a dangerous mod. |

Nah...it'll make it feel just like a 9SX, LOL. The old forks will physically fit the new clamps though. The old forks have an hourglass taper - narrow in between and fatter at the clamps. The new forks are straight and the same diameter as the fat part of the old ones. Anon posted to that effect in the 1125r forum in a thread I started about "1125r forks...Uly forks?". Stupid browser won't let me look at 2 places on badweb at once or I'd find the link, sorry.... |

So, how much shorter is the trail with the new trees. Can't be much?? From RBracings website. Offset-- Centerline of top of steering neck to centerline of top of fork tubes. Rake-- The angle in degrees of the steering neck from the vertical. Fork Length-- The distance between the top of the fork tubes to the centerline of the axle. Diameter of the front tire. Trail: Distance defined by vertical line from axle to ground and intersect of centerline of steering neck and ground. Raked Triple Trees-- In order to bring trail figures back into line, triple trees with raked steering stems can be used. Expressed in degrees. Usually adjustable in 3, 5, and 7 degrees of rake. Calculations Tire Diameter: Tire Diameter Formula: If you do not know a certain tire diameter use the following formula: Diam Inches = Rim Diam Inches + [ (2 x Aspect Ratio x Section Width) / 25.4] Example: 200/55R18 Tire: 26.7" = 18 + [(2 x 0.55 x 200)/25.4] |
