So I have my VDSTS installed and I am using the Keyspan adapter. I bought this second hand it was working for the fella before me.

So when I connect the cables, have the bike and killswitch on I need to select a port in which to communicate with. So I found that the Keyspan adapter is COM8. I select that in the VDSTS software and it immediately comes up as "Cannot open Port." No matter what I do, it does the same thing.

Any ideas on what to look for? Could the cables be bad? But they were working before I got them, so that doesn't seem to be it.

Thanks for your help!

Mike

I guess what is happening is that the Keyspan is "BUSY" and when the VDSTS try's to commicate with the ECM, it can't because the Keyspan is keeping the port open and busy.

Now who kows how to fix that? I surely don't. Stupid computer stuff.....

Michael1, make sure the software is setup like the guide shows where you change the speed and something else. I never had a problem with mine being busy so I'm not exactly sure what is causing the issue.

I am not sure what's going on. It possibly could be that I am using the newest Keyspan software.

When I open the VDSTS the only options I can choose from is the Port Setting and the Vehicle Interface Cable Properties. Nothing else works. I'll have to try and download the Keyspan drivers from the CD, instead of their website.

We'll see...

when you installed the keyspan it installed a program to allow you to customize the settings.

That is separate from the vdsts program.

you have to bump up the speed of the keyspan in the keyspan serial adapter controls, you'll find that in your start menu.

Yeah, I've been into that program but I cannot change anything in it. Everything is blacked out.

*IF* I could change that speed, to what do I need to change it to????

Thanks.

Michael1,
My Buell-only VDSTS didn't work with the out-of-the-box settings. I'm not using the Keyspan but I was using a port replicator on a laptop so maybe there are some parallels. I wish I could recall exactly what I did but echoing what JMH said, my solution was in the Vehicle Interface Cable Spec window. I think I had to enter (reenter?) the correct ECU/ECM. Good luck.

Thanks for everyone's help. Seem's that I had some other programs "grabbing" the keyspan as soon as I put it in. Once I told them to stop using that port, I could connect and get it to work.

Thanks again.

FYI - Keyspan Tech Support ROCKS!
