I have an early (S/N 44) '06 Uly with the Hepco-Becker cases. A common problem with those side cases is the rubber seal coming out of the case. That has happened to me (a long time ago, actually).

I've tried several adhesives, but nothing has been able to adhere effectively to both the plastic case and the rubber seal.

Anyone had this problem and fixed it? Thanks.

Have you tried the 3M contact cement. I use it on rubber plastic and metal in industrial settings. Pretty expensive the aerosol can will run around 27 dollars.

I can fix that immediately.

Send me your mailing address (include a phone number} and I'll have the secret solution to you by Wednesday.

Next question.

Leave the rubber seals off. The cases close easier, you are much less likely to break a latch, and unless you ride through a hurricane very little if any moisture gets inside the case

Court,

Why resist??

Give in! Go get the new 08 Blue Uly with the heated grips that you have always wanted and then repeat your epic and famous "circle the US on a Buell" trip on the new Ulysses.

That would make a great story even better.

Next question.

The mounting hardware for the Uly bags is wrapped in several places with a thich plastic/rubber tape. My tape has come off in a couple of locations. What can you tell me about replacing it?

Maybe Court doesn't have a Uly yet because he knows of something in the works.

Frankly, not much. I was unaware of that. I can look and see if it's a service part.

What has your dealer told you?

Have you checked with customer service?

Post a pic if you can.

Thanks Court. I have not done anything yet. My first step was going to be to call Appleton to see if the tape actually had a part number. But it seemed reasonably on topic in this thread, and you asked for another question, so I decided to post it.

Thanks, Jim

When those strips of soft plastic started to become detached, like the one in the photo, I cleaned all the dirt and old adhesive off with gasoline, then sprayed some 3M adhesive on it and stuck it back on. So far, they're fine.
