So people, is your Uly a tool or a toy. Tool = used daily instead of other transportation Toy = used on weekend for pleasure. I consider mine a toy. |

Whats this "other transportation" you speak of? For me, both a tool and a toy. |

Just bought my 06 a few weeks ago, replacing my 12R. Unfortunately, like the 'Bolt before it, I have little time to do more than commuting on my bikes- so I guess that makes them amazingly fun tools! -Mike |

I call it a fuel-saving tool, used daily to save my wallet from the weekly $60 fill-ups in my 4Runner. I use it on the weekends for pure enjoyment with my little lady. 3800 miles in 6 months!!! |

Weapon, I use it to tackle the commute, the mud, adventure riding and definitely my therapy . Hey Rider Mag, the Buell is not a pretender for the off pavement fun. 2006 xb9sx, riding her like a ULY, she wants to be a Uly when she grows up ;) |

I would say my tool is a toy, no, wait a minute, my toy is a tool, no thats not it.... Any way my little lady uses my tool as a toy. Sorry, couldn't resist, my bike gets used for pleasure travel only, not obvious for my work! |

I have a company car filled with tools for work. On occasion I will load what i need in it and ride. At home it is my grocery getter on a daily basis. Depending on why I am riding it could be either. |

I am in the same boat as Bertotti. I dont have a personal car, but a company cage full of manuals, parts and tools. I do ride the bike when working when ever I can. Not riding at all right now, tore my ACL on the 29th, and the knee isnt very stable at this point. |

Unless I need the 4 wheels for large grocery run then I'm on the ULY. Why get into a hot car when I've got my ULY. |

I only get to ride it on weekends when I get time to "play". Since I consider it a scalpel for corners, I guess that would make it a "tool". So I guess you could say on weekends I play with my tool. Every chance I get. |

I ride almost every day. I can (and have) live without a car. I can (and have) live without a motorcycle. If it's a choice between having one or the other, the car goes. It's a tool and a toy and it does a lot to keep me functional in a really screwed up world. |

Ft_B, are you a doctor? I thought not. Step away from the surgical instruments, and just own up to the fact that your Uly is a "toy", "T-O-Y, toy!" Up until now, my Uly has been a toy. I use it nearly every day for commuting, and it really makes my short commute a lot more fun; thus, my Uly is currently a toy. Come September, though, my Uly will become a tool. The Uly is going to make the new commute bearable. In a car, the new commute will get pretty old, pretty fast. I think a bike will help to keep it fresh and enjoyable, otherwise, I'm looking at a miserable next 30 years! If you examine my new commute, you'll see why I think it will be more fun on a bike... http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=m&q2=old%20forest%20rd,%20lynchburg,%20va&q1=lexington,%20va&trf=0&lon=-79.324036&lat=37.600088&mag=8&env=F ...you may have to cut and paste the entire link into your browser, as I think that the BadWeb interface can't deal with the ";" in the address. edit: I did my best to fix the link. It should now work as a cut and paste, but just not as a hyperlink. (Message edited by l_je on August 09, 2007) |

I used to rarely ride to work. Looks a bit dodgy career-wise. Then I got seriously sick and recovered. Now I ride what I like and that is the Uly. Pack my son on back and drop him off at school amid the Volvos, Saabs and soccer vans on my way to work. It sure makes him unique at his school. If I had a car I really loved it might be different but right now it is all Uly as much as possible. I am not sure about the questions really, as most tools are toys in the best sense of the word. Google "Galoots" regarding handtools. |

All I get is a blue page on the maps with a list of the directions sounds cool though. |

Tool. My Uly is my only bike. It is a hardcore commuter ride and takes me to customer locations for work as well. Toy. I do take some fun rides on the beast with friends and it certainly makes travel to any destination more fun than getting there in a cage. Both. Tool first, toy second. |

Mine is a toy. Wow so many commuters. I ride when I can when I am not traveling and do alot of touring in the winter to follow my son's college soccer team. Makes a great excuse to go ride. |

Mine is a Tool/Toy. Since getting my 07 in July, my pickup has gotten 3 parking tickets as a abandoned vehicle. I better find those keys before the street sweeper comes around again. |

Definitely a tool for me. I ride it daily, commuting to work as a minimum. Since there is a lot of construction going on in my area and plenty of parking impaired cage drivers I have really come to appreciate the extra ground clearance - the old Ducati Monster just didn't have the space to hop over curbs gracefully. Of course I also enjoy taking off on the backroads on the weekend and going for the long haul whenever I can.... Hmmmm, does that make it an Recreational Vehicle? Heh! |
