I just want to do the two tone (gray portion) of the chin fairing. What's the recipe - dilution and contact time. Thanks Tried the search, found everything else but what I was looking for |

I did a mod report a few months ago that included RIT dyeing some parts. It looked pretty good (not perfect) at first, but slowly faded over time. The RIT dye does not hold up to UV light very well. It is best to paint. For the center portion of my chin fairing I ordered the black version off the XB12TT and riveted onto the side portions. I like the black center better. |

Thanks for the input. I ended up adding one bottle (maybe 4 oz) to about 3 gallons of hot water. No secret to the amount of water - that's how much it took to cover the piece in the pail I was using. It seemed like the dye took really slowly so I ended up soaking it for about 8 hours. It looks pretty good, but I did use some nuts and bolts to reassemble it in case I decide to redye, paint, or otherwise replace it. |

In jeans I have dyed with rit I used a little vinegar in the wash the first time. I found it tends to set the dye a bit. I have no idea what the effect would be on parts. (Message edited by Bertotti on July 15, 2007) |

Or, you can just order a black center piece. IIRC, it was under $30. part number - m0698.02a8ambe |
