Took a long road trip and needed to top off the oil. I am using redline but out on the open road, all I could find was a shop on my route that sold Motul synthetic. Put a bit in to bring the oil up a bit. Do i need to change my oil now or can I just run it till my next oil change? |

Was the Motul the same weight? If so I wouldn't worry about it. Steve |

Personally I wouldn't worry about it at all, just wait for your next scheduled oil change. That's just my uneducated .02 though. A riding buddy of mine had a similar situation - he was running Harley synthetic in is Electraglide and topped it off with (coincidentally) Motul. When he got back from his road trip he asked the Harley dealer about it. The dealer said the "official" answer was that he should have topped off with a diesel rated petroleum oil, then changed it at the earliest opportunity. That is the same advice the owners manual had for Harley petroleum oil. Unofficially he said to just wait for the next change. I don't think I agree with the advice to top off with petroleum oil,... although I really don't know how the different additives in synthetic and petroleum mix and react. That's way above my head. |
