Were most of the problems with the bike dying (presumably due to the BAS problem) occurring on the '06 bikes ? Anyone having the "engine dies, recycle kill switch, and runs fine" problem with an '07 ? My '07 did it on the highway today, right at 825 miles. I was in the right lane, sudden 'off', started toward the breakdown lane, recycled the kill switch, and I stayed in the breakdown lane just to check it out. It seemed to be fine, so I pulled back out, and no problems yet for the rest of the day. I have my 1000 service scheduled for Wednesday, so I'll mention it then. It just isn't a good feeling to have, wondering as I head up to N.C. Saturday (and back Monday) if it will do it again as I deal with Atlanta I-75 traffic. |

Do all the 07's have the BAS relocated in the tail? If not, it should be. You may just have a bad BAS. You're the first 07 I've heard of. |

I haven't even had the seat off yet, but I'll check tonight. |

How, praytell, did you get to the owners manual to read cover to cover without taking the seat off. BTW, don't get nosy and pull that blue bag out from it's hiding spot. You won't be able to return it once you do. |

The manual was handed to me, along with my keys. And yes I did read it cover to cover. I almost always rely on the BIG toolbox in the garage for my tool needs. |

The blue bag does have one magic implement. THE BIG NUT! I thought I was the only "cover to cover" nerd. |

Yes, but I read it AFTER I rode ! Broke that rule in the manual. |

BAS on 07's I believe are in the same spot. I have seen a picture of the 06 recall and I definitely don't have that in the tail. |

If it is in the same spot as the 06, FL, your's might have missed the recall. |

It certainly had the same symptom. When you take it in you will probably have to insist that the BAS is bad, as there is no real test for it. My dealer replaced mine under warranty, but at that time they said they likely wouldn't be able to turn it into Buell for warranty because it wouldn't show bad on any tests. Changing it did cure the problem though, 8000 more miles with no more cutting out. The BAS reposition recall was done 2000 miles after the sensor was changed. |

Mine died before 1,000 miles. It died again at around 7,500 miles (post recall). So far, so good at 11,000 miles. |

Not 100 % sure what it is supposed to look like, but there is something electrical mounted behind the aluminum plate in the tail section. Like I said, I'll mention the BAS at my first service. My saddlebags, ZG windscreen, and service manual are all in, too ! |

Here is what is should look like after the relocation.

Did they add the aluminum piece in for the recall ? That looks like my '07, with something electrical mounted right behind the upright part of the aluminum bracket. Maybe the new location is only part of the solution, maybe the BAS quality itself is lacking a little. |

I think you have nailed it. It seems to be the sensors are hit or miss. Q1 is not that vendor's priority it seems. |

Had my first service today, and mentioned the possible BAS problem. They had not seen an '07 with the problem, but I had it noted (for now). Saddlebags took forever, I guess I have a poorly aligning set of brackets. Got out of there pretty late (to make it to work on time 170 miles away), but in time for afternoon thunderstorms. I did (barely) make it to work, but not before it DIED AGAIN at 1200 miles (odometer) between rain squalls. Off/on with the kill switch, back to running. Not a good feeling for going to N.C. and back Saturday & Monday ! P.S. My average gas mileage of 41 mpg was trashed on the return trip -- 34 mpg. Could be the speeds just over (???) the legal limit. |

FL, are you coming to a complete stop for the switch cycle? If so, it isn't necessary. I've done it twice mid turn. It has only done it twice in one day once. With that degree of irregularity, I wouldn't worry about your ride. |

Ft_bstrd, The first time it did it, it caught me by surprise, and since I was in the right lane, I signaled into the breakdown lane, then recycled the kill switch as soon as I started the lane change. The "V-engine" light came on temporarily, so I stopped to check everything once over, then continued on my way. Today, I was like, "What the f, and recycled it before I finished the thought. Continued on my way. I didn't have time to stop, what with running late, and the soon approaching wall of water downpour #2 !

FL, See if your local dealer with go ahead and order the BAS. It takes about 6 minutes to swap out if they are using one hand to smoke a cigarette. It's obviously bad. It won't hurt anything, but if you're like me, the thought of having it there will worry you. You think the BAS thing is bad, I had a loose connection..... To the oil pressure light. Nothing like being at 5,000 RPM and looking down to see that you are completely out of oil and grenading your engine 250 miles from home. |

I finally just had my recall done this week. It sort of went against my philosophy of, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", so we will see what happens. |

Ft_bstrd - are you still having BAS problems after the mod was done ? |

Khelton, I had one BAS die before the recall at around 820 miles. I had one BAS die AFTER the recall at around 7,500 miles. The recall only relocated the BAS in an attempt to reduce the heat, crush pressure, and vibration stresses on the BAS. If it's cooked before you move it, it's gonna die after you move it. Maybe I yank and bank my bike too much. |

I think the bas is pressure sensitive, and not crush resistant. I base this on fats having had two failures and nothing else. |

Update: On my trip to N.C. this weekend, the bike died 3 times in 13 miles on the way up, only 100 miles after I left at 3 am. Ran fine for 800 miles then died once in Atlanta I-75 traffic, then 100 miles later it died 4 more times within 3 miles. Then it was fine for the last 400 miles, but not without me wondering if I would make it home. Each time I recycled the kill switch, and it came right back. Even the time it died twice within 30 seconds. This morning I called my dealer, told them to order the BAS ($25) and send it to me. I'll put it on, avoid the warranty B.S. of having to bring the bike there, leaving it, and then going back to pick it up when it is done. $25 plus mailing sounds better than $115 in gas for 2 round trips with the van, $40 in tolls, not to mention 12 hours total of my time. |
