SO I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a com system; the Starcom1 Advance. It should be arriving tomorrow and I'm wondering if anyone else here has the unit on their uly and if you have any pointers or tips for me before I do the install. I bought it so my lady and I can speak to each other and so we can plug in my Sirius radio. Im pretty excited. I hope it works well. thanks for any and all comments. -Scott} |

Not sure about the Starcom Advanced, but Maximum managed to get an Autocom nicely mounted under his seat next to the battery - http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/284619.html?1181830774 |

My wife and I discussed getting a com system... until I mentioned that I often sing in my helmet. |

Hmmmmm interesting concept. You guys actually TALK to your wives. Whats funny is my wife loves the fact that I have such a huge bike addiction. Could be doing worse things. But it is always funny when I run into fellow riders and we get talking bikes I can see her eyes start to glaze over and she goes to her happy place. Where ever that may be. |

Let me know how you like the system once you get it installed. I have the starcom1 advance on my Uly and I am having trouble shutting off the VOX. I have it all the way off according to starcom but when I rev the engine under a load the VOX kicks in from the intake noise. Wondering if you have the same problem. Later. |

I installed the system yesterday (it fits conveniently on top of the battery under the rubber strap) and took a 1 hour test ride with my passenger on back. here are the results. Initial settings: VOL = HIGHEST Other settings were all half way on the dial Under 60mph everything is GREAT, the system sounds superb and the full duplex worked nicely. I noticed a little of the engine revs coming through but only when I revved it all the way when stopped. When the engine was under load (even when taking off all the way to redline from a stop) I noticed no engine noise coming through. Over 60mph I got constant wind noise coming from the passenger mic. Her helmet is big and the full face mic could not be located close enough to her face. I turned the MIC gain and the VOX gain down slightly for the passenger and it helped a little with the wind noise but then I couldn't hear everything she said to me. Conclusion on first test: Wonderful small system, speakers were loud enough (at least to hear the wind noise coming through even at 90+). I think I'm going to like this system a lot and I think it will work flawlessly once I fix the microphone positioning in the passenger helmet... but we shall see. I will report back then I get a chance. Heres a question though, does anyone have any ideas on how to reposition the mic on the passenger helmet? where it is now there is about a 1.5 inch gap between her lips and the mic on the inside of the front of the helmet. The directions say that for optimal sound the mic needs to be as close to the lips as possible (even touching them). I need to build something up under her helmet to bring the mic closer to her mouth but I'm not sure how to do it in a way that wont fall apart after 5 rides.... any ideas welcome. -Scott |
