Ok, got my x1 sold (poor things going to become a mutant). And intend/hope to pick up a Uly this weekend. Right leg heat is something that has always kind of chapped my hide about my bike. What's everyone's experience with ceramic coatings or wrapping the pipes? How big of a difference does it make? Any improvement on the engine running cooler in addition to your leg? BTW.. nothing to do with the original topic but a reply for jesse luggage today came back saying they're hoping to have a luggage system for the Uly by fall. |

I guess it must be the years on bikes. I hardly notice the heat on the Buell. My 04 R1 and 04 Multi (ass roasters) bothered me far more than the Buell. Of course I would not be caught dead on the street riding in shorts!! |

Hoolikan, It could be the years... though truth be told, its not something that bothers me when actually riding... but I do commute to work and sit in Atlanta traffic sometimes... And I agree... though I don't have riding pants (yet) I can't imagine why anyone would ever ride in shorts... |

I have ceramic coated headers. I did it mostly for the look, not the heat. I did notice a difference, but honestly the heat was not that big of a deal to start with. |

My old X1 put out much more right side heat than the Uly. That being said, I have my pipes wrapped on the Uly. I could wear shorts (if I was so inclined). |

The Silver one's are supposed to make a pretty big difference, I think Al of American Sportbike did a write up on actual temp differences a while back. I ended up getting my header coated flat black, and AL says that color radiates more heat externally than stock, even though it also does it's job of passing the heat through to the muffler. I can confirm that I felt more heat after the coating than I did before, but I had the header coated to look cool, and it does that really well! |

I would think that ceramic coating on the inside might do more good than outside coating. Can that be done? Does it add any appreciable weight? I know it looks sharp as an outside coating but inside and outside would surely be way cooler (temp-wise). |

Just dont eat that extra biscuit, and you wont notice the extra weight. |

I would think that ceramic coating on the inside might do more good than outside coating. Can that be done? Yes, headers can be coated inside and out. Mufflers can not. Does it add any appreciable weight? No. I got my muffler ceramic coated by HPC. I love it. It looks great and the finish is durable. It took care of the rust I was having. I would have liked to coat the headers as well, but getting them off the bike intimidated me. |

I pulled my exhaust off and had it coated flat black by Jet-Hot. I did it because the muffler was rusting, and it looked like crap; and I thought the headers would look better black, also. I haven't noticed any change in the amount of radiated heat, but that hasn't been an issue with me, anyway. |

I have mine done in the silver coating inside and out. They look great and the difference in heat is substantial! I think the bike even runs a little cooler but I don't have any real data to support that. It just feels much better. I did the silver because the race muffler came coated the same way and I wanted the best heat management possible. It does work! BC Steve |

Jet-Hot coated my header. I went with blue it seems to make a difference on my right leg. Also I know Jet-Hot coats the inside at the same time. |

Kip, Is that blue against the stealth 12x or the faster orange color? |

Can you guys with coated headers post up some pics so we can see the finished product? I've seen some pics with black headers which look nice. Interested in seeing the polished chrome look, and the blue look (sounds like it could be very Britten-esque.) Also, if anyone has a link to the report on thermal efficiency of the coatings based on color, I'd love to see it. I'm not finding anything via Google. |

My bike is in the shop for a bad voltage regulator. When I get it back I'll take some pics to post. Mine has the polished aluminum look like the race muffler. BC Steve |
