What ever you do, do not build a muffler jack stand out of particle board. Especially if you decide to wash the bike on the stand. Ends up that water seems to weaken particle board, go figure.
Unfortunately my Uly was jacked about a foot off the ground when the platform decided to give way. I went inside to get something, and when I returned the bike was on it's side. Now I didn't take time to snap a picture of this (since I had more pressing things on my mind), but here is a picture of how high the stand was when the bike fell off.
Amazing though, the damage was minimal. There was minor damage to the left hand protector...
...and some scuffs on the left saddle bag, most of which was absorbed by the grey bumper. I was shocked that there was no damage to my recently painted luggage trim pieces.
I guess this is what you would call character for the bike. I call it a valuable lesson of what NOT to do! |

I like your Tapeworks Reflective rim tapes. I like how you think. Sorry about your drop. Luckily, it appears the damage was minimal. This is with 3M black reflective tape (activated by flash)

With the entire bike about a foot off the ground when it went over, it is pretty amazing how little damage there is on my Uly. You gotta love this about Buells! My last bike, a CBR1000, would have had $500-$800 in damage if it fell over off it's center stand. Don't ask me how I know that. |

Made mine out of pressure treated 2x4. I think it could hold a Mack truck. |

Hey Chad, good to know. The real issue was that I needed a base plate, because the span that I needed to accommodate the Buell jack points was wider than the base of the stand. Did you do the same thing? If so, what material did you use for the base? I guess pressure treated plywood would work. BTW, I think that it was your muffler support CAD (.pdf) that I used, and it was perfect (except for the material I used of course). |

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking! Question from a NEWBEE: Can you jack all of the XB's up by there muffler? Or is it just the Uly? |

I used high-quality plywood and 2x4s for mine; also whenever I use it I hook tie-downs from my shop ceiling to the bars to prevent tipping. Better safe than sorry. Although the Uly does indeed seem to sustain minimal damage when dropped (as mine has been on several rides...doh!) |

Mike, all XB mufflers can be used as a jack point, bose stock and race mufflers. Some after market pipes are not. Greg, I do the same thing when I am in the garage working on the bike. But I also like to jack it up when I am washing it outside, as it is easier to get all around the wheels. Just have to be more careful! |

Without scratches, a Uly is not properly accessorized. |

Glad to hear the damage was minor. I connected my cradles with threaded rod, and it seems very stable.

Another pic. The jack points shouldn't be wider than the jack itself.

I just did a 2x4 "box" with mine. Nothing on the bottom. |

I agree with roadrailer that it sounds like your jack supports are too far apart. They should fit great on the lift without needing a baseplate. The arrows on the muffler are center points for your supports. I made my box out of 4 2x6's The nice thing about using 2x6's is I can slip the jack right under the bike lift box as I pull the bike off the sidestand. It will just squeeze under it and hold the bike without jacking it up. Seems more secure than when I was trying to jack the 2x4's under it and hold it straight too. |

I went way overboard building mine.. Used 8ft of 2X6, a piece of 2X10, 3" decking screws and gorilla glue. Weight is approx 20 lb, but I've left the bike strapped and jacked for over a week w/o issue. http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/garage.php?do=vie wmod&mid=33174 |
