Since picking up my Uly about two weeks ago tomorrow I have managed to put about 1000 miles on her. When I first got her home and went for an extended ride she was pinging like crazy. But after I ran the all the gas that was in there when I picked her up and put in some fresh 93 the pinging has stopped. That was within the first 80 miles or so. Since then having put over 900 miles on her I have not had any issues.....I know 900 miles in the life of a bike is nothing but I am stoked about this bike. I have noticed that for some reason the harder I flog her the better mileage I get???????? Wish that was the case with my softail. I set the suspension up to the recommended settings for my weight and the ride seems a little harsh. I go over a mountain pass to work and back everyday and she tends to run a little wide coming out of corners now. I do have one question\concern I would like some input on. The "piston slap" from this motor when it gets really hot is kind of loud. I just did an oil change w\ M1 15W50 and the noise continues. Does anyone have any input on this?? Thanks |

There have been many many flaming battles over what oil to run. I have been sticking to the Buell SM recommendations and it has been working well. For these warmer temps the straight 50w and when it gets hotter the 60w. I have a couple of riding buddies that went to a synthetic when new and the engines were really noisy compared to mine. Some people have been stating that some additives in the Mobil 1 are hard on the electricals in the engine. I run it in everything else that I own after a break in period of at least 20,000 miles, but not my Buells. My Uly gets better mileage flogging it on twisties than on a slab, you just gotta plan your trips that way! That pinging you experienced was likely a dip-wad that put regular in it at the dealership. |
