Got a problem that the dealer has taken the "ignore it and it might go away" approach to so maybe some of you can help me out.

After the bike has warmed up, about one time in ten when I take off from a stop the bike will pop or backfire through the airbox. Not a big problem, at least that's what I thought until the bike stalled mid-left turn in front of oncoming traffic. I've mentioned the problem each of the last 4 times the bike has been in for service and I always get the "our tech took it out and it ran fine" response. I'd be a little more persistent with the dealer, but they're 2 hours away.

I've had the same thing happen to me, it seems to be related with blirping the throttle when I come up to a stop, for me that is...when I reframe from blirping, problem solved...hope this helps

Mine acted like that before I went to the '07 airbox. I had to be real gentle about giving it gas or it would hiccup and stumble on takeoff with the '06 box. It definitely was not a TPS reset issue. I don't "blirp" or "blip" the throttle when coming to a stop either. What airbox do you have Oddsc?

What is the idle speed set to? It needs to be 1100 or close to it. Some dealers like to set the idle to 900 and our bikes don't like that very well.

I've got an 06, idle is set b/w 1000 & 1100. I do blip the throttle just to make sure It'll move when I'm ready, but that's just become a habit since it started to hiccup.

I think the airbox is my next move.

Happened to me a couple times also. Blipping the throttle is the culprit. Mr. Throttle no likey the blippy. So don't blip, and it won't trip.

Like you said Odd, it happens like 1 in 10 times. I have an '07. I chose the "ignore" method. I don't think it's a big deal.

It may be a combination of issues.

If the throttle is set too low, it will tend to do it more.

If you don't let it warm up enough, it will tend to do it more.

If you have a habit of short warm ups, the spark plugs might be a bit gummy, and it will do it more.

If you have the 06 airbox, it will do it more.

Most of all, if you blip your throttle, it will do it more. ;)
