finally got my appt for BAS recall also told dealer I would need tps reset. Ok I installed race ecm in parking lot and left it with the dealer. picked up bike it ran like crap backfiring, rough idle etc. took bike back thurs got the call sat morning it was done. they reset the TPS again and adjusted the AFV .bike ran great for 30 + miles then it was killing @ stoplights, rough idle. rode back to dealer. they said tec had it set @ 1000 rpms lucky to hit 600 now. they said they will take care of it but I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions about the problems. my dealer has been great to me they just may need a little help with buells. I also asked if we could just adjust the idle and they thought it would mess with the Tps. Thanks -Kip |

I bought the software and I do it myself. I had a guy do the same thing you did. He took his to the dealer and his bike ran like crap too. He brought it to my house, and I reset the TPS and set the idle....it ran perfectly. |

Chad If you lived closer I would bring it by. When I looked it up in the service manual it looks like a pretty easy job. |

The problem is that the dealer techs don't always know that Buells require slightly different idle requirements than the Sporty, so they do them all the same. Also, a lot of them do them ice cold instead of waiting until they are up to temp. You bring it in, it sits until someone gets to it and to save time, they don't get it up to speed before doing the TPS reset and idle adjustment. Simple thing to do, but screwing it up can make a huge difference in the way the bike runs. Luckily, I know someone with the software! |

First time I reset mine with VDSTS it ran just like yours, then after reading the directions and the post by Al_lighton again I realize that I just did it wrong. Once I reset the TPS correctly, it ran like a champ! So I believe that FB is correct, the dealer does not know how to do this on a Buell! Order the $200 VDSTS package from American Sportbike, and do it yourself. |

Take it to Appleton WI and request that Ernie do the work on it. Tell him Dave sent you. Your troubles will be over. |

Hey Kip, what about a PDA? I run VDSTS on a really old laptop (an old spare that has a serial port), but I have also run it via my Palm Phone/PDA (Treo 600). You don't need anything high speed to run the program and it sure is nice to know that it was done right. |

Kip, The biz is doing ok for now. This is the slow time of the year for the archery business. All my sources say that if i can hold on til July, then all heck breaks loose! I had the good fortune to have Mathews Inc. contact me and want me to be a dealer for them. On this past Weds I was in Sparta WI at the Mathews factory getting my tech certification school out of the way. Learned a lot and met a bunch of really good people(a lot like the folks you meet at Buell, by the way) Mathews is a 1st class company in everything they do and it shows. I was very impressed. The web portion of the biz is starting to pick up and will only get bigger and better over time. I've already sent stuff to about 8 different states and even have a customer from NJ sending me his whole bow for me to do the set up. His local Ross Archery dealer sucks (see another similarity here?) so he is willing to spend about 35.00 in shipping for me to take care of him and his bow. New leagues starting the 1st week of June I have some crazy ideas (imagine that) of how to make this one even more challenging. All in all, I made a good choice. It is sooooo great to be home with Kandie and my dogs full time. Even though I am working 6 days a week, and about a zillion hours per week. It is worth it. It's also great to be able to take one of my dogs to work with me. Jake and Taos share shop dog duties and have their own days they go with me. Taos, at work Jake at work Gearloose, You have a D+D on it, right? |

It looks like it uses 15k of space. I also had to order a serial cable off Ebay (since my Treo only came with a USB cable), but I think that was only about $10 and it works great. |

Unless you just want to be able to do it yourself and I understand if you do. It is easier and less $ to just take it to Ernie. It will cost you about 30-40.00 and you'll be done. By the way, Appleton also stocks the Techno software |

"I also asked if we could just adjust the idle and they thought it would mess with the Tps." That statement they made, alone, makes me think they do not know what they are doing. 2 completely different things, idle and TPS |

All newer PDA's come with a USB only cable, which is why I needed to purchase the serial cable separately. It looks like the Palm T/X is a newer PDA that Palm does not make a serial cable for. So the bad news is that you cannot pick up one off Ebay for $10. The good news is that there are some after market companies that do make a serial cable for the Palm T/X. Look here: http://www.pcables.com/cat2.html (second item down) Of course they cost more because they are specially made. I agree with Daves, if you have access to a good servicing dealer like Appleton, it would be cheaper to take it to them, unless you would just rather do it yourself (like many of us do). |

thanks Max and Dave. Appleton is only about a couple hrs away it would be a good reason for a road trip. Thanks max for finding the cable. It seems a little high $. I think if my brothers laptop is still useable I could try it out. its only about 7 yrs old. |

Make sure you say Hi to Ernie for me. I kind of miss that kid. When you set up the appt. make sure they give the job to him. |

Now that there are two Buells in my garage (a Scg and Uly) I am thinking about getting the software for the TPS. How hard is it to do? What all will I need? I have a lap top computer. I can do ok with hard mechanical things like nuts, screws, Oil, tires, wheels, etc. but when it comes to electrical things I always let out all the electrons, they usually escape in a cloud of black smoke, and never return. perhaps that is why I had so much trouble in college chemestry, I did not beleieve there were such things as atoms. |

Why can't the dealers get on the same page as Buell. I will email you if I need help also if you are going to see your friends @ team triumph give me a shout. |
