Hey all, I've got a buddy I'm stationed with over here in Italy who just went to Afghanistan for 6 months and I'm watching his Uly for him. Short story is that he didn't get the sidestand recall done and just before leaving, one of the mounting bolts sheared off. I've got it "hanging" in my 200+ yr old Italian barn from the first floor rafters with cargo straps, but I'd like to get it fixed for him so it's good to go when he gets back (not until Sep). I need advice on whether to just try to find a dealer in the states who will sell me the kit and install my self (sheared bolt will make it challenging) or to try to take it to the local Italian Harley/Buell shop 30 min away to have them do it. He bought the bike in San Antonio (I think)before coming here so I'm just guessing the local dealer here will want to charge me for it. Not sure how recalls work; can you take it to any dealer to have it done and then Harley/Buell will reimburse 'em? Thanks in advance, JY |

You have to take it to a shop, the dealer it not allowed by LAW to simply sell you the parts. It is an easy replacement, but as I said, by LAW they are required to make the bike right and document the fix. Call the dealer, give them the VIN, when they get the part they can do the fix. |
