I've had an oil leak up near the front of the crankcase for a number of months; made a mess of the muffler, etc. Turns out it was the oil cooler return line where it enters the crankcase. There is a 90-degree angle fitting there with an NPT thread on the case side. It was loose where it enters the case! When I disconnected the oil line, the NPT thread was literally not even finger tight. Since it's captured by the oil line, it can't have loosened; it must never have been tightened. I cranked it around one more turn and now it's tight. I'm not impressed with whomever installed this fitting, but I am impressed with how easy it was to access and fix. |
