Just curious ... how many people have actually contacted Buell customer service with a pinging problem? I have. I know that Davo has.

Buell can't fix the problem if we don't tell them about it.

I thought I might get this issue with my new bike, but to date no ping. Could be I can't screw it on too hard at the moment due to run in,or because I'm running 98 RON fuel. The bike I test rode had very bad ping issue.

Bails,
You shouldn't have any problem with yours if you continue with 98. I do not think that all of the Uly's have the same issue. We have discovered that some of these bikes have an increased compression ratio. That is great for the track but in the ethanol enriched real world it is a problem.

That is sad if you have to buy 98 octane fuel to prevent knock. I have top say the only time I have noticed knock was when I was riding in the States. Using 91 here in Canada has never caused the bike to knock. I used mid grade of 89 octane and did not have a problem either. But 98 is a bit too much and it's like available where.

I think there might be some confusion since we have a mixture of US/CAN and AUS riders here. When 98-octane is mentioned, I think that is based on the RON (research) value for octane, while stateside we use the MON (R+M)/2 value.

I think 98-RON is equivalent to 91-MON.

Hope that helps clarify things, and please correct me if I'm wrong about the reference to 98 being a RON reference.

Just keep the info coming on the pinging bikes to my official email- mhaynes@ridenow.com- it's all getting forwarded directly to the factory.

But the Buell Race ECM and muffler installed kinda voids the whole 'contact Customer Service/dealership' doesn't it? I fool with it when it warms up a bit (yeah...comin' from day temps of 50s.... what a wimp I have become!)
