The original thread for reference.... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/241368.html?1168737965 Just a quick update. I now have about 1,500 (maybe a bit more) miles with the 'big' screen So far so good.. no issues as yet. The screen does what I want. .it keeps the majority of the cold wind off of me. I ride to work 38 miles one way.. back roads.. so I can ride 55-65 more or less and then the weekend 'fun' rides. I have not had to do any kind of sustained high speed interstate riding, so can't really comment on riding down the road at 80+ for hours on end. I have had the screen up to higher speeds for short bursts with no problems yet. This screen definitely buffets much less than the Cee Baily 16 inch. Given that the Cee Baily flipped up at the top and this one does not ... seems to keep the airflow much smoother.. pretty sure it also puts less stress on the windshield (??). Mike |

Hey, thanks for the update Mike. Remind me,...what hight windshield are you running now? Is Parabellum selling the one your using? Peace Milo |

I currently have the 28 inch. I checked the web site (http://www.parabellum.com/) Charly has these listed 22" (pictured) 24"( good for average height person) 24" 26" 28" (+$25) I also mentioned to him I wanted to discuss a 'summer' windshield that would smaller (both width and height) than the current offerings. If he makes one I would buy it.. his material and workmanship are top notch. So in the beginning of the original thread I had the 22" inch (thats my bike in the pic on his web site) and in the latter part of the thread I have the 28. I had a few pics of both posted.. from here http://gamdh.smugmug.com/gallery/2144819/1/1111471 95 HTH Mike |

How tall are you Mike? I am probably going to get one for my winter shield. I'm 5'9" and thinking about going with the 24". I will also be running the 2007 seat which is lower than the standard '06 seat that you are running. Steve |

I'm 6'2"... If you look at the pics on smugmug it will give you a good idea of the actual height of the screen etc.. Mike |

I need the wind protection but that shield just looks so gigantic. I wish there was a way to adjust the height without having to take the flyscreen off and remove it-what a pain that would be. What about the supporting posts? Wasn't Charly reconsidering the design to upgrade the mounting system? |

Java.. I'll ask him again. Might help if those interested would send him an email asking the same question. (just a thought) Mike |

I sent him a request for upper support, when you first posted. He responded with "the shield is guaranteed for a year". Not exactly sure what that means, but I did ask. |

So, I exchanged emails with Charly last night. I'll be dropping of the Uly Wednesday night so he can work on the supports.... As soon as I get it back I'll post a few pics. |

It's Slipstreamer hardware #A1A for the Hellfire windscreen. You have to bore a couple of holes in the windscreen to mount the rods. Real easy. These acrylic wind screens are a breeze to drill and will only shatter if you try to hammer the holes through with a pick axe instead of boring with a drill. http://slipstreamer.com/Product/Hardware/hardware. html They can be ordered from your dealer or parts store. |

Wow! If you had a good steady tailwind, you could shut the engine off and sail to your destination. LOL!! |

Chadhargis, With that 6'5" frame of yours, is that what you do? Can you explain the difference??? The wind is blocked by the windscreen instead of my chest and face. The only thing that suffers is top speed since no matter how low I crouch down the windshield is still there. |

Note the smiley...my comment was intended as humor. My 6'5" frame is exactly why I don't like big windshields. In order to get the wind over my helmet, I've got to put a barn door on the bike that's so big that I have to look trough it, and then I get a big ugly low pressure zone that buffets me to death. I've cruised at 80mph for miles on end with my +2.5" Cee Bailey's and the wind hits me about mid chest. My helmet is in good clean air. I'm also averse to bolting anything like that to my handlebars. If the wind hits me, I can absorb the windblast and not feed it to the bars. Can't do that with a big windscreen. I'm not knocking the windshield...if it works...then more power to it. I was just poking a little fun at it. |

I just picked up the Uly from Charly @Parabellum. It now has the extra support struts everyone seems to want. Not a very long ride home but ...the windshield is rock solid with the struts. I will post some pics in the morning. |

Here are a few pics of the 28 inch shield with the new supports. The are very unobtrusive in the cockpit! Everything still fits with not problems.

I like them. Do you know the total cost of the shield w/struts. I went to the site, but it hasn't been updated. Thanks, for all of your effort on this project also. Bob |

Gamdh, To be honest with you, those turnbuckle supports look like they have too many degrees of freedom. The slipstreamer rods go up higher and are very sturdy but probably would interfere with your GPS and fishfinder. |

Bienhoabob : No idea on the cost.. I'll ping Charly. Elec : The windshield is very stable.. not sure what you mean by degrees of freedom.. but the shield does not move. I grabbed the top and pulled in various directions.... very strong. The location of the mounts is good in my opinion... the offer a lot of support and stability without getting in the way. Next objection? Again.. Charly knows what he's doing.. he uses superior materials and has pride in what he does. Personally.. even without the struts I think his shields are much stronger and better designed than the Cee Baily ... just my $.02. |

I talked to Charly on the phone today, and Gamdh is correct, this guy knows what he's doing! I went ahead and ordered a 24" tinted shield for my trip back home next month (Alabama to Colorado ). (Message edited by maximum on January 21, 2007) |

I ordered a 24" Parabellum screen about a week ago. Thursday evening Charley called and informed me he was including the struts and asked why I ordered the 24". No good reason other than that was recommended as the average size. He suggested the 28" for my 6' frame. You don't get that kind of personalized service most places. |

Gamdh, I just ordered a 24". I'm a little shorter than you guys. Can't wait to try it out. |

It's gi-freaking-gantic! Let's hear some product review feedback ASAP. Any 5'10" people getting the 24 inch? Does a crosswind or windblast from a semi just about knock you over? Can you go through a car wash and not get wet? Is there a polycarbonate bullet and shrapnel resistant version? |

Java.. I've done a few reviews and updates (see this thread and the original, hopefully some others will add their reviews). And yes the 28" is the proverbial barn door.. but again.. thats what I (and others) wanted for the winter. I asked Charly about something smaller for the summer and he seemed interested. As for any handling issues.. I have not encountered anything due to the windshield. Not sure about the carwash .. but if if you get going in the rain.. you don't get wet And of course he is using military aircraft grade acrylic.. so there is only one way to find out if its bullet proof...I'll let someone else be the test rider for that experiment . |

My CeeBailey sucks! I am 6' and find that the CB causes so much buffeting and wind noise to my helmet I would be better off with no windshield at all. As a matter of fact, my Buell "tall" screen is quieter. The only advantage to the CB is that it does block the wind blast on my torso. I think I am going to try the 28" parabellum after seeing it on the bike and hearing such good things about it here, regardless of Electraglider_1997's teasing. Kind of funny coming from and obvious geezerglide rider...talk about a barn door, those things are like driving the whole barn! |
