OK. First, I rode today in the rain. It was very light, enough to make my knees wet, but not soak me beyond that. I pull my uly into the garage to wipe her down (post hight speed bike wash), and hear a bubbling/boiling noise as I go to check the oil level. I can't tell exactly where this is coming from, but it seems to be very close to the cap/stick on the rear swingarm. Any ideas on what this could possibly be? The bike is hot because I was moving in slow moving freeway traffic. I do get 'the ping' when it gets this hot, traffic conditions are slow, or I can't WOT on the throttle to clear it out. I'm not sure that this is related other than folks here seem to identify the pinging with a motor getting too hot. Has anyone else heard this, or have any ideas? Should I be worried? |

It's the gas boiling in the frame gas tank. It gets very hot being all around the engine. The tank vent line exits behind the passenger's peg close to where you check the oil. You can smell the fuel when you hear this sound. After my engine broke in, I do not notice this condition as much. This is not an abnormal condition on this model. Btw, no smoking cigars when checking your oil! |

On the tubers, this is a common noise evidently caused by moisture accumulating in the transmission oil and then boiling off. The transmission also has a vent tube in that general vicinity. If you've been having a lot of wet weather in your area and this is the first time you've gotten your bike good and hot in a few days, I'd bet that's what it was. |
